... Apparently, the Giants starters can cover him. Nice stat line -- he wasn't even thrown to. All last week I was questioning the unrelenting fervor that was surrounding David Clowney. People were actually saying -- get this -- that he should be our #1 receiver ... haha. At several points during the posting war that was going on, I actually thought people were kidding, pulling my leg. Turns out they were serious. Think I'm making this up? Look at some of these quotes: OUCH! Yikes. I could go on and on, but you get the point. Anyway, I also said that if Clowney played well last night, I'd be the first person to say "DevTeam is wrong, you guys are all right and I sincerely apologize for disagreeing with you, as I should've known that Clowney really is the real deal. Well guess what? Not only is the needle pointing exactly in the direction that I felt it would, but the guy's statline reads like a no hitter in baseball. So, even though he was on the field, NOTHING happened. He didn't even get a chance to screw up because he never got the ball thrown to him... what does that tell you? Someone's probably going to say "he has a rookie QB throwing to him, Sanchez doesn't know what he's doing". My retort to that is quite simple: Stuckey has been the #2 since the beginning of camp, and until we trade for someone, he's going to remain #2 -- last night proved that quite definitively. Also, Sanchez looked pretty damn good last night. My guess is that Clowney never got open. I'm glad we can all finally put this conversation to rest. I'm accepting gracious apologies from anyone who disagreed with my statements earlier in the week, even if you thought to yourself: "Devteam is probably wrong on this", don't be afraid to apologize. Thanks!
to say he had a bad night or whatever you have no way of knowing that unless you got the game film infront of you.. How do you know he wasnt open on plays and Sanchez didnt find him? Stuckey still got a lot more reps then he did as well.. Clowney is probable a flash in the pan but just like having 2 good games, just because he didnt get a ball thrown his way in this one means he sucks... Wrs cant force a qb to throw a ball to him
So you can dismiss any good he does in preseason because it's preseason but when he doesn't get a pass thrown his way in preseason it's evidence that he sucks. Good logic. Our #1 receiver only had 3 balls thrown his way and one was a quick screen. He was also in for more plays. I didn't key on him much, but I did notice him doing some nice down field blocking on one of Leons runs.
Clowney didn't even get a pass thrown to him all night. I guess we can say that Dustin Keller sucks too since he didn't catch anything last night.
Sounds like this has more to do with you than the play. Anyone with a reasonable perspective would realize this season is going to be a season where it's a different receiver who steps up each week, if any at all. The Jets don't have a reliable #1 on the team, and it's going to be a committee approach to success.
Hey, I just asked you guys to calm down -- I asked why you were all quivering with anticipation about Mr. August. You responded with all these ridiculous love letters to Clowney, saying the most absurd things, and attempting to disagree with me -- your arguments and counterpoints were weak, there was a lot of backpedalling. All I'm saying is, he didn't show up. They call them "receivers" for a reason, they're primary job is to catch the ball. He didn't do that. I don't know of too many good receivers who are "good blockers" but have 100 yards receiving on a season. He's just not that good... he might be a nice #4 receiver, that's it. Let's just move on is all I'm saying. You can say "Dev, you were right about Clowney" at any time -- don't feel rushed or pressured in any way.
Nice pointless post, very impressive. Nobody's questioning Revis' ability, we're questioning Clowney's ability. Revis has been to a pro bowl already and will go again this year. Clowney has caught one ball in the regular season in his 2 years in the league.
The fact that you are trying to use last night's game to prove your point just shows how little you know about the game of football. Did you see the game film? Shit, I don't think he even played more than 10 plays yesterday. Why didn't you write off Stuckey last week when he didn't catch any passes? And hell, Stuckey caught all his passes this week against SCRUB and CAMP FODDER Giants secondary.
"Edge, I like to point out when I'm right to people that disagree with my obvious, logical points. I don't think that means I'm an attention whore. I rarely post on this board anymore because of people like you =)"
I maintain my earlier statement that Clowney will be a Devery Henderson type in the NFL, blazing speed that allows him to come in in the 3-4 WR's sets and just blow by the nickel/dime corner, and race to the endzone. That is not a bad thing, we need a deep threat and I believe that Clowney/Allison will do well in that role this year. But as far as Clowney excelling at anything other than running the go-route, i believe he has one reception that wasnt a long bomb..... further proving my point.
Dev do you prefer to be right than see the Jets do well?? That's the vibe your giving off mate and it's ridiculous how some people on here (Luckily the minority) prefer to be right. Get over it, he didn't catch any last night, who gives a damn, he pops up and catches a 70 yard TD in Houston, that's what matters. Wasn't he 5th overall before last night in receiving yards this pre-season. He had a quiet game, guess what? it happens, stop jumping on our players at the first sign of unproductive play.
Making a blanket statement like this doesn't help in having a good discussion. There were good points made IMO, you chose to dismiss them all and insult the people making them. You're right he didn't have any receptions. Without seeing the coaches tape you have no idea if he was running good routes or getting open. Keep in mind Sanchez was under duress for much of the evening. Blocking is part of the job of a receiver and that will help him stay on the field. Staying on the field will give him more opportunities to catch passes. Again, how does one preseason game make you "right"? Get over yourself. Let's give this kid some time. My only point in the entire debate w/you was that he's shown much more than Brad Smith as a receiver in preseason and deserves to start over him. You want me to tell you you're right? What the fuck did Brad Smith do as a receiver last night?
This thread begs the question: Mirror mirror on the wall who is the biggest attention whore of them all?
I would think people like me would keep you coming back... or do you want to live in a fantasy world where you're the only person in the world making obvious, logical points, and you're using your divine wisdom to correct the masses of sheep who are silly and just don't understand until DevTeam steps in. After all, I made an obvious and logical point that you clearly have a fetish with yourself and your obvious logical points, and crusade on making people know that your obvious and logical points are rather obvious and logical, at least in your own head.
