Schlegel=Tangini's first mistake Schlegel=Chatham Schlegel=Reach Pick Schlegel=A horrible pick considering the other holes we couldve filled Schlegel=another completely mediocre talent labeled as a "mangini guy"
Dude what are you not understanding. We had the 71 and Pope was available. We chose to trade down for a 7th round pick and take a guy who has no hope of ever being anything but a decent 2 down player in the nfl.
am i the only person who thinks this is a good pick? he's very strong and very good against the run. He could be a valuable asset against the run. also, i think from the third round on, it's a crap shoot. you can find gold anywhere. this guy has a lota heart, produced very well as a sophomore at a mid-major (115 tackles at airforce) and led ohio state this year in tackles for losses. who else could we have had- youboty, pope who both have weaknesses in their games as well. the 3-4 defense is contigent at depth at linebacker, so i like the pick
Here's some video of Schlegel for any who are interested: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/prospects?rank_type=16 I know they are only highlights, but he seems to have some real Bruschi-like qualities. I think this is a guy that will remain below many Jet fans radar but could possibly end up being a major contributor down the road.
Great point. Towards the end of the 1st round and on there really is no such thing as a reach pick. How many times have we seen the Patriots go for these "reach" picks later in the draft, only to prove the critics wrong?
i think tangini is trying to be too much like belichek therefore outsmarting themselves and making reaches
Schlegel = You don't know how good he'll be Schlegel = I don't know how good he'll be Schlegel = Don't get so worked up about it
He was AWESOME at the Air Force academy transferred, sat out a year and the started at Ohio State..Solid LB probably a special teamer to start
Pros: He is a tough run-plugger reminiscent of former Buckeyes like Chris Spielman, though not in his class athletically. He makes most of his tackles inside the tackle box and rarely misses a tackle or makes an assignment mistake. He can be an explosive hitter within that short area, showing fine hand technique, leverage, overall strength and the ability to shed and stack at the point of attack.. Cons: He has limited range in pass coverage and is taken out on obvious passing downs. In space, he lacks the hip flexibility in addition to only average foot speed. He is an old-school, high-motor type who gives great effort all the time, though he could be limited for the pros by his average athleticism.
