Who do you think should get the spot? Clemens because of his experience or Ainge because he's almost won both preseason games in a relief role. I dunno, but Ainge has matured quite a bit and with his size and arm and moxie, just might be able to beat out KC for the backup job. Ainge could make Clemens expendable in a possible trade for a WR as well.. Thoughts anyone?
I'd say Clemens simply because Ainge is a complete unknown against #1s/#2s... however, I'd love to see Ainge get a shot at playing against first and second stringers.
We need a vet QB and right now Clemens is filling in that role, id much rather have clemens then Ainge, if anything were to happen to Sanchez, as of right now id say or potential to win with either Clemens or Sanchez is about the same, with Sanchez having a lot more upside, why not keep em both just in case.... Ainge hasnt proved enough yet.
This is the last year on Clemens contract. He's gone after this year. They are grooming Ainge to replace him. :drunk:
For now its Clemens because of his experience. I would not be supprised if he is gone in the offseason and the team drafts another QB in the 5th or later round to compete for Ainge and "Harvard" for the back up jobs.
If Clemens faulters IN THE 4TH QUARTER of the Giants game WITH THE SCRUBS IN, then don't be surprised if Ainge is suddenly given more time and consideration by Ryan. Every time Clemens comes into games, I get nervous, because I think he gets nervous. Personally, I'd rather have Ainge, but let's see how things progress these last few games. Hee hee
I get the feeling if Ratliffe was still here, Clemens would have been traded (for a first down marker) or cut...
Here's another question. What happens if Ainge outplays Clemens in the Giants' game against similar calibre opposition? What does Von Ryan do at that point? Stay with Clemens or switch to Ainge..?
If we didn't have a player on the team with the name Keller the small error in this post would not matter as much... anyway, clemens should definitely be the #2 QB for this year and when he leaves in the offseason we can see if Ainge is worthy of that role.
I'm sure it will be Clemens unless they trade him. There is no doubt he is leaving after this year if they don't. "He insisted he likes it in New York, but when it was suggested that he'll never have another chance to win the starting job here again and that he perhaps would have to go elsewhere, Clemens, in the final year of his contract, said: "I'm not going down that road." "Asked if he can be content as a backup, Clemens said: "Once you start thinking of yourself as a backup, you'll never be a starter. I'm not there." http://www.nypost.com/seven/08272009/sports/jets/clemens_classy_in_defeat_186724.htm
Clemens may well be traded, it's the right thing to do for him and the organization. Bring in a narly looking vet and sit him behind Ainge.
Clemens: 1) Because he has more experience of being an NFL player (on and off the field) 2) Because he has always been VERY supportive with Sanchez (the guy is just a class-act, you'd want a guy like that to be your 50$ mill QB's best friend) 3) Because he knows the system better than anyone in there except Schotty 4) Because NO ONE would trade for him... next year he'll be a FA and he is not starting anywhere right now Next year the #2 position will be up for grabs but, as a backup, Clemens will always be welcome in NY (imho)
I have to agree with you .... Clemens has had his chances, albeit fleeting and not under the best of conditions, he still never really stepped up to the plate and impressed anyone .... Ainge is still very unknown, he could be a good backup, he may be starting material for us and/or another team, but until he has a chance to prove it ... ( ala ... Matt Cassel ) no one will ever know
Somebody might trade for him. Not as a starter but as part of a package. Especially if they lack depth on their own rosters. Just look at the people Mangini wanted from us on draft day.
I picked Ainge.. cause he isn't Clemens, but Clemens will end up the #2 at least for this year, and then who knows. Clip board possession has been his one consistent skillset.
