That's a whole lot of green propaganda written there... No way one can predict Sanchez will be great based on two preseason games. The jury will be out for a couple seasons on that one. Leon is a dynamic player, a great talent, but he can't be called the most explosive player in the NFL until he has a bigger role for the team. Ravens need a couple more Super Bowls before they can be considered one of the top franchises. It's all about winning.
Yeah, very good view points. The first point about Gholston is most disturbing. There are no more excuses.......... Gholston should be having a much better pre-season than he is. If you can't beat out a third-string Tackle it is time to take up another profession. I still hold out hope that he will pan out but it is looking bleaker by the game.
Good read and nice insight on Sanchez. I am not personally ready to announce him as a future star, way too early for that. But as a Jets fan I am biased that the writer is correct.
Hahaha...this is MY article. Wrote it yesterday, and its funny it showed up on here. To all- thanks for the criticism. I'm always looking to get better as a writer, so it would help. MrElectric- Who do you think the most explosive player is today in the NFL? I do believe the Ravens are a top 3 franchise. Yes, winning the Superbowl is the big show, but you would be hard pressed to find a team with more depth then the Ravens. It is unbelievable how much depth they have. Newsome has done an amazing job for the Ravens. Acad- the line I wrote about gholston being 'kept hidden' was merely a joke. obviously, you can't expect that to be the truth, it was just a hopeful wish that he explodes onto the scene this season. edit- obviously, I can't prove it is me. Best I can do is say author is Kevin DeBenedetto, my screen name here is Debo (my nickname that everyone calls me) I doubt you guys think I'm lying though
I can name at least ten players that are more explosive than Leon Washington. In no order: Larry Fitzgerald Michael Turner Devin Hester Adrian Peterson Andre Johnson Calvin Johnson Chris Johnson DeAngelo Williams Steve Smith Randy Moss There's a more that I could add... Look around. I know he led the NFL in All-Purpose yards, but he's not the scariest player at either of the positions that he plays - Hester is a better return man and he's not even close to being a top back in this league. I like Leon Washington and I think he'll be an extremely valuable role player for the Jets, but don't call him the most explosive player in the league.
While all those are explosive players (except I wouldn't put Turner on that list), the problem I have with it is they are doing their one thing (receiving/running whoever it is) while Leon is returning, running, and receiving. He is doing it all, and doing it with explosiveness. Green shaded glasses or not, I do believe he is the most explosive.
Did you not watch Michael Turner last season? He made big play after big play...saying that he isn't explosive is a joke. Reggie Bush can catch, return, and carry the ball too...and he does is better. It's not called "explosiveness", it's called versatility.
Reggie Bush can't stay healthy... when he plays 16 games he should be included in that conversation. Until then he's just another first round pick with great ability that can't stay healthy
I couldn't agree more...but when Bush is healthy, there's no comparison. ...just something to throw out there - Bush picked up more offensive yards in 10 games than Washington did in a full season. I know Washington isn't used as much, but Bush is the better receiver of the two, so of course he's going to get more touches.
Granted, as far as depth, I'll agree with you. I was thinking long term team greatness. I think only the Texans have fewer NFL wins under their belt than the Ravens. I do like their logo though...reminds me of the Heckyl and Jeckyl cartoons. Time will judge whether the Ravens are an elite franchise to be mentioned along side the Steelers. I didn't even wanna mention the Pats. As do I. For now, I'll be happy if he doesn't pull a Bosworth.
