We saw a lake of experience on WR last night and Stuckey is not the answer. God nows why we didn't see Clowney out with the 1st team. We need a goto guy and Cotcher can not handle the doubleteam coverage or being matched up against the other teams #1 CB. Get us a true #1 even if it costa us a #1 pick.
I think we all think it's coming. If it doesn't it won't be for lack of trying. I just hope if they make a deal they don't just settle if they can't get the guy they want.
I would prefer they let it go if the guy they want, they can't get. If they want Brandon Marshall and the Broncos balk at them. I don't want to see them go and trade for Dwayne Bowe if the price is nearly identical. I would rather give up a 1 and a 4 for Marshall than just a 1 for Bowe. If they can't get who they want, then just let it go...
Agreed. It's not worth parting with draft picks for someone less than elite. If they're going to make a move, it's got to be to get a guy who is an Al Toon like threat. If they can't get someone of that caliber, they're better off holding on to the draft picks, especially considering how good next year's draft is supposed to be.
Im sure something is gonna happen like jetsrule i would prefer Marshall i think he brings more to the table
Starting caliber WRs don't just shake free, it's going to cost us alot to get one. Last night showed we just need our QBs to play mistake free. We ran it well, our D played well, we lost b/c we gave away 2 TDs. if our QBs limit mistakes we'll have chances to win. Giving up another premium pick to get a WR is very risky.
I would prefer they hold onto draft picks unless they can get exactly who they want and unless its somebody that they can sign. i.e don't give up a draft pick to rent a player for a season.
to be honest if it was say Brandon Marshall.... the deal would be contingent upon a resigning, and if the Jets cannot come to an agreement the deal either doesn't happen or it is conditional and the Jets only have to give up a mid round pick like a 3rd.
Have you guys forgotten what 1st round picks have yielded the Jets over the last 20 years? Are you telling me that you would rather roll the dice, with the jets track record of first round picks, then give up a 1st rounder for a proven stud like Marshall? I think you guys are insane. They also most likely would not be renting Marshall for a year they would have to restructure his contract. I know there is a lot of risk with that head case but for christ sakes Tanny get it done.
I know Sanchez and Clemens probably would have preferred seeing a 6'3" speedster going down the sideline rather then a smurf with Ray Lewis and company baring down on them.
It doesn't matter whether we won or lost, it's preseason, and is used for evaluating our talent. An evaluation of our receivers shows that we have a MAJOR problem here. Cotchery is a #2, Clowney is MAYBE a solid #2 as well, if not a nice #3 threat. Stuckey is a short range possession receiver who can't do much else, Brad Smith has stonehands, and Wallace Wright just doesn't get involved that often. Having a true #1 receiver will open things up for the entire offense, and make our QBs job a lot easier as well. Just look back at how the Jets offense changed when they acquired Al Toon.
Brandon Marshall is a stone cold nutjob. He has been injury prone. He has had a DUI and numerous domestic violence complaints and charges. he apparently likes to threaten and beat up girls and he has some pretty serious anger management issues. He seems to be pretty much a scuzzball. He is a good football player, but I would rather not have him on the team. He is also a FA in 2010 so obviously they would have to work out a contract w/him to have giving up a pick make any sense.
Al Toon and Keyshawn Johnson were both 6'4". I don't think we have ever had another tall #1 in our history. What they could do is obvious. We really need another big #1 again.
Our track record has been excellent w/ 1st rd picks the last 15 or so years. Marvin Jones Aaron Glenn Keyshawn Farrior(though he didn't blossom until his last year w/ us) Chad Abe Ellis Becht Moss Vilma Brick Mangold Revis
It would be nice to have a true #1 but we haven't had a true #1 since we trdaed Key and we had alot of success. Could we use help? Sure but not at the expense of a bad trade and bad contract extension.
That's why we need to trust Tannenbaum to do what he always seems to find a way to do, which is to make a good trade and and give a good contract extension. Still, I'd settle for him finding a way to get Leon locked up.
If the team gets a lot of passes to Leon and Keller, I don't see why our WRs can't get open and make plays, even if they don't have elite talent.
