Jets looking for WR/Marshall or Bowe on radar? - NY Daily News

  1. Marshall is a special player. If we get the opportunity to bring him in for less than a first rounder and sign him long term...we do it and dont look back.

I agree Hemi. Tanny so far has done pretty good trading up to get special guys. Now that we have a decent core grouping of specialists, its a good time to take a year and figure out what the actual needs really are and address them in the '10 draft. We have front line talent but very little depth and Tanny can't keep waiting till August to fill these needs. I don't see the need for a Marshall this year. Especially given the bad press Denver's gotten behind the Cutler fiasco, they're gonna rape the next team that comes along wanting one of their starters. We don't really need a Cadillac WR this year. Maybe next year..

Marshall can force his way out just like Cutler did. It's just a question of whether or not he wants to do that or can afford to do that.

I would be fine with either Marshall or Bowe. That would be a huge upgrade at the WR position. GO JETS!

Perhaps you're right about that Don but don't you think the Denver FO is better prepared this time around for that? They can't be that inept to be continually held up by star players that for whatever reason, simply don't want to play for the Ponies anymore. Maybe they pay Marshall just to save face with the PSL/Season ticket holders/Fanbase. I don't think they can let Marshall walk without extracting some crazy amount of comp in return. They'll lose what little credibility they have left if they do.

So what would we be giving up for Brandon Marshall?

For someone with his production and talent, I would be willing to spend a first round pick. And Denver might be willing to take a first rounder because they want to get rid of the issue and because they will likely need a QB in the draft.

If they won't take picks, I can't see what package of players we can offer that they would want to take. I doubt they would want Jones because of his age and contract demands. Even if they took him, we'd have to offer more, but we don't really have any excess to offer.

I agree he's a good player, but I'm more concerned about his hip than his attitude. That's all they're talking about out here in Denver.

I think because of Marshall handcuffing the Broncos with his demands....and his recent injury history. He could be had for a 2nd round pick, IMO. Tanny needs to hold on to that 2010 1st round pick....and I think he's schrewd enough to do it while nabbing either Bowe or Marshall.

As far as which one I'd prefer......both players have proven they can play at a high level, but i think Marshall is the higher risk higher reward player....it would be tough to look past his talent.....206 balls caught in 2 seasons is impressive.

But having said all that.....I'd probably go with Bowe....because he stays out of trouble and is still quite productive.

If he sits out he gets fines 15,000 a day or whatever it is. I believe this is the last year of his contract so he could conceivably do it for the season. At some point, probably in the first month they would try and work a deal to get rid of him. Like I said he would have to want that and be able to afford it.

He has another issue with them now too. One that caused the Broncos to apologize.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp09/news/story?id=4408285

"Marshall, who is unhappy with his contract and wants either a raise or a trade, is annoyed with the way the team handled his acquittal on misdemeanor battery charges last week, a person close to him told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

Marshall learned upon rejoining the team that a member of the Broncos' public relations staff told his teammates after their preseason opener at San Francisco on Friday night that they shouldn't gloat over his acquittal hours earlier in an Atlanta courtroom.

The Denver Post, quoting a person it didn't identify, reported that players were told not to say they were happy for Marshall but instead to say it was good for the organization that the issue was behind them.

Marshall was told the staffer was acting on his own but figured the directive came from someone higher up in the organization, so he met with Broncos chief operating officer Joe Ellis, who apologized to him Monday, the person familiar with the matter told the AP."

Even though the Denver FO selfdestructs on the player relations front, if this is Marshall's walk year, why trade for him now but instead, see what he's worth on the open market in a uncapped year. That way, you can keep your DP's and see if his hip (and attitude) can hold up through 16 games..

^ The only reason I can think of would be that Woody is desperately trying to win now so he can sell those PSLs.

I would say go for Dwayne Bowe.

Marshall has a load of talent but is a severe headache. It seems like to me that he will reach T.O. status, incredibly productive but loving the attention of the media and grabbing headlines. Imagine what that situation will be in New York?

Bowe doesn't seem to have as big of an attitude as Marshall and he has been very productive.

I would love for the Jets to get Dwayne Bowe. And if there thinking of talking trade with the Giants the guy I would like to see them try and get would be Ramses Barden.

All this also depends on what they would have to give up.

I'd give the Broncos a first and probably a third in the same draft for Marshall. However, I doubt they'll give him up without asking for someone like Harris, Revis, or Rhodes. They need defenders and I doubt they'll give him up for anything less than a starter.

    So...not Senorita Moss?

Sinorice Moss is a huge bust and can't stay on the field because he keeps getting injured.

The Jets could probably land him if they offered up a pair of Rex's dirty underwear in a trade.

BINGO! I would add Marshall is a headache waiting to happen. He's always in trouble and for all intents and purposes is not a good teammate. If that isn't enough he's got health concerns.

Bowe also did more with less last year IMO. I would love to get him

The Jets already have a Moss type player in Aundrea Allison who they picked up last week..probably better.
