Our wr core kinda sucks right now and jones is one of the best options out there. I dont get the love for clowney he has proven nothing and smith just sucks. We need to take a chance on a guy like jones who is clearly more talent then clowney and smith
I can't believe they are possibly thinking of starting the season with only the receivers we have now.
I'd like two things explained to me: 1) How are any of Jones (5 years in the league, no production, coke head), Toomer (35 years old, possession receiver, not wanted by SB caliber team with no WRs, little production last few years), or Harrison (37 years old and clearly way over the hill, discarded by SB caliber team, off the field issues) better than the young WRs the Jets have in camp who are either going to get better or show that the Jets need to go in another direction? 2) What is the difference between a #1 and #2? Is it talent? stats? opportunity? I have been a die hard NFL fan for almost 45 years and I don't know what constitutes a #1 and I'm not being ignorant, I'm making a point. Would Colston be a #1 on the Jets? Would his numbers be the same? Would Cotchery be a #1 if he and Colston traded places? Is Brandon Marshall a #1 with Orton at QB? Is Hester a #1? Is Vincent Jackson a #1? When did Roddy White become a #1 and what made him a #1? Is Ochocinco now a #2 who used to be a #1 and may be a #1 again now that the Bengal's last year's #1 is a Seahawk? Is Owens still a #1? If not, why not? When exactly did Reggie Wayne become a #1 and why? Was Randy Moss a #1 as a Raider?
Matt Jones got 10 game starts last year and was very productive. More productive and proven than any WR on our team with the exception of Cotch. He clearly is bigger stronger and faster than anyone on our team and he has been handicapped by drug abuse. Jones is a close call on whether or not to take a chance on. If he has gotten off the drugs and matured a bit to the point where he isn't just a talent, and we can get him for a reasonable price with the option to cut him, he is probably a low risk pu with huge potential upside. Cotch produced nothing either until he got game starts and Cotch is an over acheiving, hard working, maniac who doesn't posses either the size or the speed or the ability to get up to the ball that Jones does. We are talking about replacing Brad Smith or Chansi Stucky not exactly highly productive guys. I can see the argument either way this is one of those decisions where management earns their pay. Toomer is probably to old but again this is a highly productive veteran WR that has proven more than any WR on our team. I think he's done but I can see why they might want him around. A number 1 WR is a guy who can consistently create seperation against the top NFL CB, create double teams and mismatches for other players and generally be one of the go to guys in your O. There are a lot of guys who excell in the NFL 1 on 1 against a No. 2 CB whithout help but if you don't have a real No. 1 you better have 3 sure handed proven No. 2's. Our basic problem is we don't know what we have. If Cotch can't have a big year against the No. CB 1 for the other team and Smith and Stucky don't step up big time our QB's are going to be throwing into very tight spaces more times than is healthy for our team.
The Jets do not need this clown. Not only does he have drug issues, he has no enthusiasm for the game. This guy drags ass on every play. The only reason why he stuck around so long with the Jags is because he was a 1st rounder and they wanted a return on their investment. Also, the Jags had the WORSE receiving corp in the league last season, and many seasons before that.
His second arrest for drinking while he was on probation for the coke incident. He's not very smart about his drug/alcohol use thats for sure. If you have a habbit, stay the hell out of public places while doing it.
sign Marvin Harrison today...or Matt Jones. Tom Shane brought up a great point yesterday over at JN with his camp report about how the (crappy) WR corps is hurting the development of our QB's. They are standing there with happy feet with NOBODY knowing how to get open.
