Brooks Bollinger is on the Orlando team. I think this league has the chance to go somewhere as a sort of farm system for the NFL.
I think this league will thrive. Especially if they run college type offenses. Your favorite player from college gets drafted, but isn't in a position to replace a Payton Manning or Adrian Peterson, so, the team sends him to UFL and you get to track and enjoy your player still. I think it'll work.
The league isn't trying to be the next NFL. Their strategy is to coexist with the NFL because they know there's a lot of players out there who are good, but the NFL just doesn't have room for them. This is more football, not the new football. Everything I've read I've been impressed with and they seem to know what they're doing. The players will be paid modest salaries, and they seem to have modest goals to start with. This season is just a "soft opening" I guess you could call it. It's to create buzz, and to iron out details. It's a short season with only 4 teams. Next year there will be a full season with at least 2-4 more cities with teams.
I am excited that fringe and former NFL players are doing this. People like Chris Perry and Lossman. I am upset that Vick is gonna get an NFL job. He would have thrived in the UFL and he could have played his way to a starter again in the NFL.
Actually no, it's 4 teams: NY Sentinels Orlando Tuskers San Fran Rockfish Las Vegas Locomotives (rofl) Check their official website: http://www.ufl-football.com/about
Maybe it's a walrus thing for Orlando....are there Walruses there? The CFL and UFL champs should play eachother at the end of the season. I am not sure if these UFL guys are CFL rejects or the ones who can't give up the NFL dream....probably a bit of both....
Agree. I'm looking forward to it personally. The season will actually be played out in the fall though, during the NFL season.
Having the champions of both leagues play each other would make no sense unless the leagues play under the same rules.
...GM said that 3 days ago. Rockfish aren't even natural in San Francisco, they should of called them the crabs or the halibut.
OK, I was really bored today. I made up a couple concepts for the Sentinels. I looked back at some now defunct New York area football teams for inspiration, and came up with the below. The main influence is the New Jersey Generals franchise, definitely the most successful team that played in a league outside the NFL in the area. I used their wreath of stars logo and placed it at the bottom of the sword. The other biggest influence is the FDNY Bravest team, which I assume is one of the reasons for the name Sentinels (guardians). The NY letter logo is based on the Bravest's logo.
If the outline colors matches the uniforms we got a clone of the Jets with a darker green. http://www.ufl-football.com/teams
