Mediocrity. You're kidding right? The Dolphins had a ten game swing in one year and made it to the playoffs while the Jets couldn't get there with Brett Favre. You tell me who is mediocre....
Well. Listen. We've lived with Pennington for years, so we all know what he brings to the table. Passable regular season - at times 10+ wins - then early exit from the playoffs. You'll get used to it yourself. For now, enjoy the 10+ win regular seasons - you're but one season away from 1-15 disaster, so maybe you'll savor the regular season wins more than we all do.
Going back to the topic of the thread I really think that the Jets are going to struggle at the QB position this season. There is a huge misconception that Sanchez will come in and be a good QB out of the gate. I know Matt Ryan did it and Flacco did it blah, blah, blah but Sanchez doesn't possess their skills or talent. The inexperience factor is going to make it tough on the kid. Sixteen college football games and now has to sort out NFL defenses. Good luck with that. Then there is Clemens. When the Jets have to rely on him to win football games it won't happen. I'm not going anywhere BTW.
Peyton Manning is good, but he also has had, and still counting 9 first rd picks at the skill positions on offense. That's a lot of talent for weapons. There is no other QB in the league that gets that kind of talent support. Give some other QB's that same kind of support and you would see their stats get better too.
And yet, even after making the playoffs and feeling great about your team, you decided to come join a Jets fan site. That hardly speaks well for your self confidence. I mean, if you wanted to rub it in, surely a January join date would have been appropriate. June tells me that you saw our offseason moves and are feeling a bit uncertain. You want to get your digs in while you still can before the season starts and we begin to show promise. I don't know if we'll have a better record than the Phins. This garbage about everybody here thinking that Sanchez is a lock to be fantastic out of the gate is just that: garbage. We know Sanchez will likely struggle. Many of us would prefer to see him learn for a season. Proclaiming that we know everything there is to know about Clemens is rather foolish too, particularly for a fan of an opposing team.
Just curious....how the fuck you would come to these conclusions? Considering Sanchez hasn't taken a single snap in the NFL yet. You, myself, or even Mark Sanchez himself, have no idea how he'll perform this season. He could be a turd or the 2nd coming of Montana....nobody knows. The same applies to Henne also (except replace Montana with Heath Shuler)....just to be fair. BTW...I've had 8 years of watching Chad Pennington....so i'd like to think i have a MORE plausable idea of how he plays and what he brings to the table....than you could ever hope for at this point in time.
1. No one is assuming that Sanchez is going to perform like Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco. Even with a great running game and defense behind him, there would be no guarantee that Sanchez would be able to handle playing in the NFL from the first snap because...(wait for it) HE'S A ROOKIE! Anyone who doesn't expect there to be growing pains is just an idiot. 2. How the Hell do you know how he compares to Flacco or Ryan's level in the NFL if he hasn't played in the NFL? Can I borrow your time machine later? I'm thinking about buying some stocks and lottery tickets. 3. Sweet. We could use another Phin phag punching bag around here. JHTJ has just become too respectable.
I think the word we are looking for is......OWNED! Coming from a dolphin fan, this was way too easy. MB on point, as always...
Quite apparently, you haven't seen enough of offensive mishaps where the limitation of QB just kills the plays. Where is that Lemon guy, the QB that didn't have brain? Wasn't that just two seasons ago? Sure, it's not ALL about QB, but QBs play a critical role in the success of any proficient offense. With all the intangibles and whatnot, Pennington did show his limitations - more so visibly in 2007 than ever - because the offensive scheming had to cater to his weaknesses. That Jets OL had a human turnstile in Adriane Clarke and Anthony Clement didn't help the cause either, but Thomas Jones couldn't really get anything going when the defense kept loading up the box. When the defense shows no respect to the QB by loading up the box all game, the QB must be able to punish the defense with the passing game - this is what Pennington is not capable of. And... last, but not the least, there are games where the passing game has to carry the team, just like there are games where the defense has to carry the team, and where the running game has to carry the team. When you have to count on your passing attack to carry the team forth, just pray that you don't fall behind - if you do, you can be certain that you'd lose that game. Coming from behind through air is another thing Pennington cannot do. Look at last year's Superbowl game - the last TD drive by the Steelers. Ben was not playing at the highest level, but he could keep his drive alive when it mattered. That's the difference between Pennington and Roethlisberger.
As far as the article goes... typical Cimini alarmist bullshit. Let's file the following into the 'No Shit' Database: Really? I'm crushed. A rookie QB didn't pick up a complex offense well enough to start during OTA's!!!! We're doomed!
I don't think anybody truly believes there is an open competition for QB. The only way Clemens gets the job is for Sanchez to completely fall apart. Clemens never got a new contract and camp opens next week. If the playing field were really ever he would have been given at least one more year before now.
With this logic I would think you would be sick of the Jets period. Two division championships in forty years..... That is just flat out sad. Your team sold the farm last year on Brett Farve and they still choked. Pathetic team. Wake up the Jets aren't ever gonna' win anything. They are a bunch of pretenders. Your new QB is going to suck cause he is way over rated. Clemens sucks already. You guys make me laugh my fucking ass off.
