Vernon Gholston is more patient than you are.

I've not given up on him yet. Hopefully he just needs a little time to develop to the NFL. I'll give him one more year. However if he doesn't start showing some improvement this year, I may write him off.

Don't worry, if things head the wrong way with Glady's there's always the walk-on from Rutgers whom we're throwing "slightly less" money at.

I have so many thoughts about this article I don't know where to begin. First of all I do hope Gholston succeeds and gets to be a force on this team. That being said, Gholston should have wondered why people "thought his rookie season was dissapointing or whaterver". I didn't expect him to get 12 sacks his rookie year or 100 tackles, but I wanted to see him have moments where I knew he would become a real great player. Gholston has shown none of that, and to be just out of the top 5 picks and have one tackle is inexcusable. I hate the fact that next years "goal" is to get him on the field regularly. This is a joke and that might be the goal for a day 2 pick during his second season, but not for a guy like Gholston.

I don't blame him for not being able to attend OTA's last year and feel bad he didn't have a chance to get extra practice in when he really needed it. But after the first half of the season last year, I think he should have figured it out a little. Anyway, I will remain positive because it has just been one year and forget about last season. This year I am still going to have reasonably low expectations for him, but if he shows nothing next year, maybe Al Davis might like a LB with his good 40 time.

I'm no longer as confident he's going to everything he was billed to be. That said, I think he'll find success in Rex's system, especially when you have a guy like Bart Scott teaching him.

My take on this is that he needs to be a natural football player, something that Mangini didn't seem to like and learn to love football again.
Its obvious his confidence is basement, and often looked shell shocked on the sidelines.
Once he has coaches, players and fans on his side again, believing in him, I'm sure he''l start to shine.

I would have liked to hear Rex talk him up MORE. For Rex to refuse to call him a starter is the same as if another coach called him a bust. It worries me. BUT, I truly believe he wants to be great and I also truly believe Rex when he says, if we can't get it out of him no one can. SO: he better be a terror by the time we play in the new stadium. Case closed.

Gholston's superpower last year wasn't invisibility, it was sucking.

Also, I assume he was one of the students at Clowney's camp and not a instructor, correct?

Ryan certainly sounds like he isn't as high on him as he was when he first got the job.

How did ulyou get that from the article?

I've been saying it all along, Gholston is going to have a big year this year. His biggest issue was that he was thinking too much. You could easily see it on the field last year. He was over thinking everything. Ryan will put him in position to be sucessful and to go back to making plays on instinct.

He's been remarkably patient about getting that first sack.

"Again, I know you guys are going to be, 'Well, he only had three tackles or one sack,' whatever it is. That's fine, but let's see how this group does. Let's see how we perform collectively. I know we'll be happy with Vernon."

Ryan has gone out of his way to have Gholston's back since he's been here. You better believe he's hoping VG pans out come September.

Nobody is handing Vernon a starting position. He has to earn it. If he plays well, good for him and better for the Jets.

    Go get 'em Vernon.

well he can't be any worse than he was last year so it is most likely going to be a positive year for Gholston.
