Now, that draft the swarms and allegations with Sapp and Marijuana dropped his stock in the draft to #12, not terrible, but he easily could of been taken higher. Now 1995 may have been the WORST draft in Jets history. 1 - Kyle Brady over Sapp 1 - Hugh Douglas(To try and cover-up the Sapp gaffe) Traded too soon. 2 - Matt O'Dwyer 3 - None 4 - Melvin Hayes 4 - Tyrone Davis 5 - Carl Greenwood The only positive was getting Wayne Chrebet as an undrafted free agent. Now, had the Jets selected Sapp, then at 16 the options could of been Ty Law. Sapp revolutionized the DT position, and is probably the best ever to play, him or John Randle. Sapp won Defensive Player of the Year in 99', and this Jets team could of been totally different. Now you may say the 3-4 would of affected Sapp and he might not have been as dominant under Parcells, and I agree to a sense since he dominated in the Tampa-2. But Sapp still would of been a Perennial Pro-Bowler at defensive end to me, coming out he was THAT good... But whatever...Sapp tells me to get over it, fuck it, I'm over it now. I do like how he said "I did" implying that he wanted to be a Jet.
the 1995 draft will go down in history as one of the worst. we could have had a pass rusher during his active years and a dancer to root for when he retired.
If talking about the 1990s and 2000s, you could say Sapp or Randle were the best ones. All time though, I think you have to list Bob Lilly, Joe Greene, Merlin Olsen, and Alan Page as being better than Sapp. Dan Hampton, Randy White, Leo Nomellini, Art Donovan, and Ernie Stautner are probably on that second tier with Sapp.
Well I wasn't born for most of the guys, I represent 1987. Anyway, I should of said the best I'VE seen. But I can't really have an opinion of those other guys. But I wouldn't doubt it.
Although we have been spoiled in recent years, the Jets have had much worse drafts than that one. Hugh Douglas was a hell of a good player (mostly for the Eagles). Brady over Sapp was disgrace but Brady was a great blocker for us in 98. Matt O'Dwyer did a very good job for us until Parcells replaced him.
Well after watching this video of Warren Sapp's break down of signing Sanchez...I think hes the dumbest guy in the world
In 98 we would have been running a 3-4 if Parcells was still HC after Kotite. I doubt Sapp would have been very effective in that scheme (see later years in Oakland), nor would he have been able to revolutionize the position like he did. Likely, he would have been traded away like Hugh Douglas was.
