I was surprised to see the JETS had the second best record over the last five seasons in the AFC East. PATRIOTS (63-17) JETS (37-43) BILLS (35-45) DOLPHINS (31-49)
I'm not sure why you are suprised? The Dolphins and Bills have sucked for the better part of the last 5 years. Yet our record is still a pathetic 37-43.
The AFC East, at least recently, usually has the Patriots with anywhere from 11-16 wins and one other team with 8-11 wins. The other two teams usually have less than 8 wins combined
Let's see.... that works out to a 46% win ratio of games played. That's terrible. Now go look at how many playoff games we had and won. It's even more pathetic. Paraphoe- Nice avatar!
Well you guys are 1-2 in playoff games in that stretch. At least you guys got the playoffs and even got a win, I can't say the same for the BILLS.
Who cares what our record was the last 5 years. Different players, different coaching regimes, and different opponents. Let's make 2009 the first year of a new era.
Since 04 the Jets have had just one more winning season than the Dolphins. Since 04 the Jets have three winng season and the Dolphins have 2 winning season and while you are correct about the Dolphins, that Jets haven't been much better.
Apparently the AFC East isn't that good. The Pats have a better winning % over their AFC rivals than they do over the rest of the league in that 5 year period. Maybe the Pats are slightly over rated playing in a relatively weak division?
Pathetic means pitiful. In that five year period, the Jets have had 3 winning seasons and two playoff appearances and a road playoff win. One of the losing season was directly relating to the starting and back up QBs being injured (2005) and the other to a horrible OL and defense. 6 games under .500 and two playoff appearances in 5 years is not pathetic. I'm not saying these have been a good 5 years. They may be mediocre or fair, but let's not get carried away. The Detroit Lions are pathetic. The Jets are not pathetic.
It's def. odd because in these 5 seasons, we've had 2 10 win seasons and a 9 win season...yet we're still 6 games under .500. When we suck, we suck BAD
Since 1997, the Jets are 100-92. In those 12 years, the Jets have had only 3 losing seasons, have made the playoffs 5 times (98, 01, 02, 04, and 06) and missed the playoffs by one game three times (97, 00, 08). They have played in 8 playoff and won 3, including the first playoff win on the road since 1982. Two of the three losing seasons and the only 8-8 season were directly related to injuries to the starting QB (99, 03, 05). For those of us who lived through the early 90s and the 70's, this 12 year period was "the golden age." It is by far the most consistent, best 12 year stretch in Jet history. To be fair, the 9 years from 98-06 were the successful period (78-64 record and all the playoff appearances).
The JETS golden age was the BILLS "golden shower" age. You guys have been consistent, but the PATRIOTS have been downright dominant.
