Lets see this is the players who are UFA after the 2009 season 1. Qb. Philip Rivera a Probowl Qb(how expensive is that contract going to be. 2. LT Marcus Mcneil- two time probowl LT(again that is one of the premier position that cost a fortune to keep. 3. OLB Shawn Merriman- another premier position and these guys also get a fortune. 4. WR Vincent Jackson- HE very good Wr whose going to hit the opening market. 5 DE Luis Castillo- one of there better Des 6.Rb- Darren Sproles - Is he the heir apparent to LT or just a change of pace back. 7.wr Chris chambers- How many of these players are the chargers going to lose in freeagency. Its nnow or never for the Chargers. They better hope there is no labor agreement with the union.
Florida residents are a little slow keeping up with the news. Maybe if they take naps more often, they wouldn't fall asleep on the key issues.
Comeon any casual fan should know whats going on in football. The league can't iron out agreement with there players. There will be uncapped year and Unrestricted FAs will need six year of service, instead of the four years. (affecting alot of players) Might be better for the Chargers if that were to happen.
The title said FA but the first line read "Lets see this is the players who are UFA after the 2009 season". I think RJ was referring to the fact that in an uncapped year all FAs become RFAs.
Pats will lose a top $$$$ earner on defense, (Seymour or Wilfork)but have money to re-sign at least one of them. They won't overspend and based on the past draft have addressed that possibility by drafting 325 lb Ron Brace. On offense they also have drafted looking toward next season selecting Ohrenberger and potential diamond in the rough in Vollmer. Their two young drafted DB's get a year to mature behind a couple of veterans. I know the Patriots aren't the only team doing "what if's" on the uncapped year, but they are in a good position to address it along with competing this year for a playoff spot with the way they have signed FA's to managable contracts along with drafting potential starters next year should they lose a few big names to FA. Every team is basically in a boat that is heading for rough water and they can't tell if there's a 500 foot waterfall ahead or just some class 3 rapids.
I'm not a hundred percent on this, but aren't the Patriots screwed on the o-line after this year? I'm pretty sure their entire o-line is extremely underpaid (1-3 million per) and all their contract run out in the next two years. ADDED: Kaczur, O'Callaghan, Britt, Neal, Hochstein, Al Johnson are all UFA's after this season, Mankins and Light a year later. I'd say Mankins is the priority. He should probably be one of the highest paid guards in the league but he might take a hometown discount.
The Pats will let Seymour go and re-sign Wilfork. It might take a while to get it done, but at this point Wilfork is easily one of the best 3-4 tackles in the league and cannot be replaced. Their offensive line situation is looking a bit iffy, but they will find a way to keep most of it intact, imo. As for the Chargers, '06 really should have been there year. There is absolutely no way they should have lost in the division game against the Pats. Had they won that game, they would have played the Colts at home (who they usually play well and were far superior to at the time). And the Bears would have been a cakewalk for half the teams that were in the AFC. Window shut.
Without a contract the rule goes from 4 years to 6 years before draftees become UFAs. So the classes of '05 and especially '06 (where the better players are) won't be free after this year. That's why there will be a shitload of pressure on the union to get a deal done.
If there is no salary cap, wouldn't that help them be able to sign all of them? Unless they're hurting for money ...
So does this mean in 2010 that Danny Snyder is going to sign an all star team to play for him? If it's uncapped, then the teams with the biggest budgets make out the best. A la Yankees in baseball. Or is there some limitation to how many FA's one team can bring in?
