I am so happy to see that the Jets signed this player.....This guy is a monster....hits like a mack truck.... Ty Steinkuhler....DL from Nebraska.....Believe me....he's a player. I am so surprised & so happy that the Jets' signed this guy. I see that Rex is on the ball & getting football players. If you know about this guy...then I know you're happy too, & if you don't know of him...you have a very pleasant surprise this training camp.
http://www.cincyjungle.com/2009/4/30/860012/de-ty-steinkuhler-signs-with-the link saying the bengals were after him and reports said he was with them and his agent clarified hes a Jet. ive seen a few nebraska games and from what ive seen hes a solid run blocker whos quick off the snap and plays till the whistle ends. i believe in 4 games last year he registered at least 5 solo tackles. and i think hes more of a pocket pusher than an actual bonafide rusher. which is whats mostly required of a 3-4 DE. entered nebraska at 233 lbs and left at 280. he'll obviously switch to DE. he had a solid supporting cast ive seen him interviewed hes a calm guy whos humble about being able to play the game. solid pickup specially considering the total lack of depth on DL for us. would be nice to see him make the squad.
I watched this guy in there last bowl game & he was all over the field. Not great speed, but always around the ball. Ball carrier goes backward when he hits them. Clemson vs Nebraska was bowl game. I was just looking over Jets roster & noticed they signed him & Zack Potter DE. Jets' are getting football playes & thats always a good thing. Defense should be very solid this year, if not spectacular.
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Levon_Kirkland&oldid=286258216 "Kirkland was a massive inside linebacker, just 6-1 but weighing anywhere from 275-300 pounds during his career." Levon Kirkland was a GREAT inside LB in the 3-4 at that weight, one of the more underrated players of his era.
I know of him. But its not common, and unless this kid has the technique and athleticism of Kirkland, he's not going to play ILB in this 3-4.
Well, just today they cut that defensive lineman/long snapper prospect so I guess that opened up a spot on the roster for another defensive lineman prospect. As to why he never got drafted, maybe he's not that good. But lots of players went undrafted.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=13017 Yeah, according to this he was signed May 2. Googled him, he seems to have had an unimpressive career, made honorable mention Big 12, big deal. But maybe Callahan saw something in him when he was there. Judging defensive tackles and offensive lineman is really for the experts.
Doesn't what what the dude can or can't do - he be should be signed on his name alone!!! Ty Steinkuhler.....now that's cool!
I'm actually getting very frustrated I haven't heard Potter's name at all since the Jets aquired him.
Potter should make the team based on lack of depth alone. I don't really know how well a 3-4 defensive end can stand out in simulation drills. We also haven't heard much about safety Emanuel Cook. I can't wait for training camp to start - this guy will be knocking heads off.
