Bob Popa and Carl Banks had a top ten mock draft on their show this morning with the beat writers from the respective teams making the selections

    1-Texans-Reggie Bush
    2-Saints-D'Brickashaw Ferguson
    3-Titans-Vince Young
4-JETS-Mario Williams(Mark Cannizaro made this selection. He said the fans are going to be clamoring for Matt Leinart but the Jets brass takes Super Mario
5-Packers-A.J. Hawk(Carl Banks made this selection. The Packers beat writer got disconnected)
    6-49ers-Vernon Davis
    7-Raiders-Matt Leinart
    8-Bills-Brodrick Bunkley
    9-Lions-Michael Huff
10-Cardinals-Ernie Sims(Cards beat writer said Dennis Green really likes Jay Cutler but Green can't wait until Cutler is ready b/c Green has had two losing seasons in the valley of the sun and the team needs to win right now with the Cards moving into a new stadium)

If Mario Williams is there at #4, they don't have a choice, THEY HAVE TO TAKE HIM. ALOT OF NFL TEAMS have him ranked ahead of BUSH.

How do you know that? Have you seen the draft boards? You don't pass on the chance for a franchise QB when you get the chance..Mario could become Super Mario but IMO has a high chance to Bust..

    booooooo

seriously, I judge talent by what was done on the field, wins and losses. Many times the Jets have not done that - Bryan Thomas anyone? and went with a "Workout Warrior" type guy. Super Mario scares me in this way - big deal he ran well at workouts, i want a guy whos proven (Matt Leinart). For the record, we can look at the year we drafted Vilma for proof that it doesnt matter how you workout, its what you did on the field.

I'll take my chances with Mario before I take a shot at any of the 3 QBs.

Yeah alot of posters on here would and I'm very thankful that none of them are running the Jets draft.. We have gone the longest of any team without picking an offensive player in the first 2 rounds.. Its time to focus on the O..

Leinart and Vince Young are 2 great QB's. We should not shy away from them. Defense is all well and good, but we have to start to put young bodies on the OFFENSIVE side of the ball.

So pass on Defense just to draft offense in the first, when the best players in this draft are on the Defensive side of the ball at the top of the draft just because we haven't taken an offensive player first since Santana Moss... great theory...<Sarcasm... lots of it too> :drunk:

In 36 games in college, Mario only had sacks in 16 of them. I think he only had sacks in like 4 or 5 games last year (3, 3, and 4 in three games). Doesn't scream consistency. Still, he is a fantastic prospect, but don't get too caught up in his sack numbers (in terms of consistency)...

Every coach in the NFL agreed that AJ Hawk and Mario Williams are the safest picks in this draft. Everyone else is a 50/50 chance of being good (besides Bush who is like 75/25)

    You're joking right?
Leinart is not the #2 best prospect in this draft. He carries a LOT of risk for any team selecting him in the early rounds. I just hope the Jets aren't the team to assume that risk. There is a strong chance he may even fall to 7.
If Williams is there, the Jets would be wise to take him. If not, D'brick is solid, or talk to teams that may have interest in trading up and taking the risk on QB. We can address the QB situation outside of the #4.
With as many options as we have in the draft, I don't think we'll have any reason to come away disappointed (although some will complain anyway)

If Mario is there at 4 I would draft him.

After hearing all the experts on Mike and the Dog I am very worried of Leinart. Every one has said that he will not be able to make the throws at Giant stadium. Too many people are now saying this that worries me.

Check where Davis is being drafted.
Every so-called expert has him helping the offense tremendously
If the 49ers pick Davis, they talk about how good he would be for a young struggling QB. All young QBs need a safety valve.

It's funny when they talk about this for other teams, but yet the Jets with their mediocre QB's don't need a safety valve?

hate to break it to you but every player in the draft is a risk. I love when people say things like this. Yes there is a risk involved with Leinart just like there is a risk involved with Mario & DBrick & Davis..

    Q

Thank you. first time I've heard you concede that Leinart is a risk, rather than use the term 'franchise QB'.
Who's to say he'll be a franchise QB? All players have risk, QB's have the most risk. They have to be paid the most, and it is the toughest position to succeed at. You just can't measure the prospect at QB like you can with other positions. It's all intangible.
By taking a potentially risky QB at #4, you'd be putting you're whole franchise on the dependency of that QB.
I won't be overly upset if the Jets draft Leinart, certainly won't boo like the idiot Philly fans when they drafted McNabb. However, drafting Leinart at 4 in particular scares me. I could be wrong, but I could also live with passing on him, or using as trade bait. Cutler at 10, Jacobs with the supp pick, free agency next year, many alternatives.
