Rotoworld: This may be something to keep an eye on. Rice would give this team another outspoken veteran with Super Bowl experience. Also, more pass rushers wouldn't hurt...
I am never opposed to more pass rushers. Rice wants a chance back in the NFL. He's old, but he might have fresh legs. If we brought him in, I'd have low expectations, but he could be able to contribute if he made the team.
Big name obviously but he has next to nothing left in the tank... Never hurts to take a look though. I'd be all for it.
Tanny is really taking this "leave no stone unturned" policy seriously. I wouldn't mind trying him out for a look. How much could it hurt? As long as we don't cut Woodhead, Westerman, or Renkart for his spot them I'm fine with it.
Doesn't make much sense for the JETS. If anything, the BILLS should look at him with their Tampa 2 and anemic pass-rush.
I interpret this as meaning Slowston has been less than impressive. I would still rather have Peyton Hillis.
I'd rather take a look at Greg Ellis who was released yesterday by the Cowboys. He's an experienced 3-4 OLB who at very least could be a situational pass-rusher and a mentor for the young guys like Gholston or Murrell.
i wonder if some of these contacts are along the lines of: "hey, would you be willing to play for three twinkies a week and an RC cola? No, OK, well just checking..."
^^^ more like "hey, would you be willing to endure an entire training camp helping the young guys out, then get whacked in the final cut down?"
yeah reading this made me think about gholston as well. see if there's anything behind this soon i suppose.
Ryan likes to run pretty crazy defensive sets, doesn't he use 5 down linemen at times? We don't have the D-Line depth to do that atm, if Rice is still in good shape than that would help
PASS! Yesterday's Jets are notorious for picking up yesterday's talent, and yesterday's talent breaks down faster than tomorrow's potential. This isn't a run for the Super Bowl year - this is a dash for the division title year.
Which makes all the difference in the world. Reading between the lines, it appears more likely that Rice and/or his agent reached out to the Jets and there was little to no evidence of interest on behalf of the Jets. It stands to reason that if the Jets had initiated contact, there would have at least been an expression of interest for him to show up for a physical/tryout. I can't think of why the Jets would call Rice or his agent without having at least something in mind.
he's a 35 year old 4-3 DE.....i don't remember Rice being that versatile......so i'm not sure he would fit in with Rex's defensive schemes. I hope the Jets take a "pass" here.
