Where in his post did he compare the two? He said the role of a featured back is being diminished. Leon's role with the team right now, is what he should stay as. And be paid as.
Actually it'll be in January. As it's being played a week before the Super Bowl. Let's hope he's not actually playing in it for that reason
Ha that's right. I forgot they changed it. So then I hope he's in the stands watching the Pro Bowl along with our entire team
My take on it, is that Leon is a stand-up hard working football player, and of course he wants money, but he also doesn't mind playing out his contract. I'd be willing to bet that Leon has WANTED to be with his team but his agent kept telling him, no, hold-out... hold-out. Leon probably said, enough is enough dude... and came back to OTA's. Thats just my guess, Leon just doesn't seem to be the type of player that gripes about too much, he knows he's just lucky to be getting paid to play the best game in the world.
I hate when people go off the deep end like that. Both are productive players in the NFL, you can certainly mention them in the same sentence or whatever. Given a choice of the two right now we're probably better off with Leon.
good to see Leon back in uniform. I can imagine the FO and CS came to Leon's camp and told him that the deal can be done, but we need you to be with your teammates practicing for the good of the team. There is a new CS in place, he needs to be working out with them. this is good news.
He certainly is comparable to Sproles who hasn't proven he can carry the load either. SD may have made a huge mistake with Sproles?
I think they have... the problem is everyone is comparing LW to Sproles (and Sproles contract) but he is being hugely overpaid!!! NO way you give more then 4 mill a year to these kind of guys... i can understand 4.5 for LW since he is a KR as well...
he needs to finish his career as a jet. he also shouldve been seeing more carries his whole career, which i believe anyone would agree with. anyways glad to see him back, get the deal done.
Your over reacting on this one. He did not compaire Leon to Tomlinson, but said that the regualrity of feature backs breaking down is the norm and to a point he is right. Look at what 350+ carry seasons due to a back. They destroy them. After one or two of them no back has ever been the same. The League is quickly becomming a two back league with few teams focusing thier offense around one back. I'm glad to have Leon back and hope he and the team can get a long term extension done, as long as the dollars are right for the Jets.
While this is always nice sentiment, it very often is not good football sense. Players tend to stick it out past thier prime for one of two more big paydays even after they are sliping away quickly. Emmit Smith to the Cards anyone? I want Leon locked up, but if he nees to go somwwhere else in his early 30's so be it.
i was going to elaborate on that but decided to cut it short. i agree, its a two back league. the days of one guy carrying a team are over in my opinion. unless 6-8 years is considered a long career, which it isnt. also, teams get far more flexibility in their offense when making it a point to incorporate two different RB's in their gameplan. also providing more film study for opposing DC's. throw in the fact of injuries being more frequent, 2 good backs is a must.
lol im not saying keep him as the focal point of our offense until his knees explode, i just think hes a versatile player who can contribute in ANY offense. im saying as long as he remains a key contributor, id like to see him a jet. better rephrasing? lol
Yaa, sounds a lot better. I'm all for guys playing with one team untill they are done, but sometimes guys do not know when they are done. C=mart was a perfect example of going when you have to, Favre or Emmit Smith are a perfect examples of staying too long.
Sounds good. Hopefully the future payday will mean a lot more carries for him. Leon is not a feature back in this league, but it is a two-back league now and sometimes that second back is just as important.
Now if you are going to talk about a guy who deserved some money, LEON should get it. Leon is EXPLOSIVE and can change (and save) a game any time he touches the ball. He was killer last season. Yeah, not a single down back, but at least he is young and explosive, two things Thomas Jones isn't. I was bent he was considering holding out, and estatic that seems to have worked itself out. He's by far the most dangerous player in the O. Well, actually, I guess it depends how you define "dangerous". Favre was the most dangerous player on the O last year, he killed more games than Vinny T ever could. Or Clemens. Or Bollinger. Or Mirer. Or any of the other "dangers" we had under center over the years.
1- saying leon has not been the number one RB and therefore can't get a big contract sounds more and more silly when we see the HUGE jack doled out to college rookies who've never played a single down in the NFL. shit, greene will probably get a much bigger pay check the leon even after we renegotiate leon's deal. 2- we can thank greene and woodhead for the return of jones and leon.
