Belichick sure loves his "over 30" vets.....if the Pats do sign this guy...i hope he stays true to form...and ends up on the DL. But that's just the "Jets fan" in me talkin'. The negative impact for us is...when he's healthy...he's a pass-rushing sack machine. http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2009/05/report_pats_con.html
Pats still need an OLB since they never addressed it in the draft. They will sign a vet at some point and Burgess is on the radar at the moment. Thomas on one side isn't the force he once was, altho still more than adequate. Not sure Davis is senile enough to let him go to the Pats after the Moss deal. Hope he doesn't remember where Randy went. A second or third rounder should seal the deal.
It seems like Thomas never quite panned out like they thought he would. He is solid if unspectacular.
They sort of wasted Thomas' 1st year having him play inside (Colvin and Vrabel outside), he's been much more of a presence outside. Burgess is about the same sizewise and skillwise as McGinest was, so if he could adapt, he might be a big help. Burgess could be motivated to have a good season on a successful team to get the extra coin he's like to make, since he's been limited the last couple of seasons.
Thomas has to stay healthy. Crable has bulked up and this will be his year to show what he can contribute to the OLB position. Burgess would be a nice addition and he's about same age as Thomas.
