As I have said in the past, I am not a big fan of taking Jay Cutler with our 4th selection. I am not too excited about taking him at 29 either. he seems like a boom or bust player to me and they tend to bust more often than boom.

I would like to see a combination of "Hawk and Mangold" or "Williams and Mangold", but thats just my OPINION (and then a QB in rd2 or rd3.)

What are the reasons I see the Jets hunting down Mr.Cutler in Round 1?

    1) I have no actual soundbyte or newspaper to back this up but I believe
Woody want's Cutler ... for him to make that trip, he didn't have to even if the Jets wanted to put out a smokescreen.

    2) A great project for Schotty ... he has a great arm, good feet and a never say die attitude, thus all the Favre comparisons ... Schotty sees big upside and he things he's the Quarterback Whisperer after what he did with Brees.

    3) The Jets FO has spent some time picking the brain of Ron Wolf ... Ron was the GM the year we missed Favre by 1 pick and he wanted him real bad, so bad that the next year he was the GM of Green Bay and traded GB's 1st rounder for Favre, a very similar player to Cutler.

    4) They are not targeting him with the 4th pick. I believe they have 2 plans ... Trade down from 4 to 7-13 and grab him, gaining another pick or 2 OR they will, if they have to, trade up with the 29 & 35 to the same area 10-13. Either way we leave with 2 first rounders ... 1 will be Cutler.

I used to cringe at the thought of us taking this guy but after listening to Jaworski and Simms talk about him, I've kind of changed my mind. I'm not gonna sit here and say please take Cutler, hell I won't even stick up for him if someone says don't take him, but I wouldn't be upset if we got him using one of the methods you've explained. The one thing I will say is to take at look at what these two have said if you haven't already.

Here's the links if you don't have them ( i know they were already posted ):

I've warmed up to the idea also. The guy as all the physical skills, the question is will he be a good descison maker. He actually had a relatively low number of interceptions for all his attempts. This is especially impressive if you consider the lack of talent around him and the quality of defenses he faced. He may turn out to be a very special player!

I appreciate the Jaws link, he's the only talking head that I actually listen to anyway. He knows his sh*& and he doesn't ever seem to have an agenda when he discusses players.

Of note is the praise he gives Kellen Clemens. The Jets are believed to be interested in Clemens. I do think they like him also but my gut tells me that they want to have a slam dunk 1st round, they will get either a stud defensive player or stud offensive linemen and bring home a special prize to Mr. Johnson ala Cutler.

Also, the panicked draftniks that didnt get Leinart will rejoice when we still get a 1st round QB. Everyone wins.

Clemens is the fallback if everything goes against them in Round 1, but they will do everything REASONABLE to grad Jay Cutler.

The other thing about Cutler is that he can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. A guy that can bench 400 lbs is not going to break like glass. Woody probably wants an investment that will keep on giving after the Pennington experience!

You guys read WAY TOO MUCH INTO Johnson going to 1 meeting and then being called back for league business on the others.

I think that is the plan, or trade up to the middle of the round with the 29 and 35.

Hey tool, this is a web forum for Jets fans. When did we have to start stating facts instead of opinions. If you are on this site you are either reading opinions or posting them. Now if you have a link to the Jets secret draft plan then by golly lets have it!

Never did I claim that I had any cold hard facts, I gave an opinion based on observations besides the usual "I LOVE JAY CUTLER" or ESPN Radio rumor ...

Right or wrong its ok to have a theory at this point.

Or maybe you read to little into it. This guy is a friggin bizzilioneir, he ALWAYS has better things to do than have dinner with some 21year old kid his football team is not gonna draft. I guess he just went for the fun of it and then "business" called him back before he go see schlubs like Leinart and Young.

I bet he has a poster of Jay Cutler over his bed as we speak.

i totally agree with your boom or bust theory which is why i don't want cutler. true you have to take a rsk to get a bigger reward, but the thing that scares me about him, is the competition he faced, and he seems to me to be one of those workout warrior types. if we got him with the 29th i wouldnt mind, or even if we traded down and got him later down in the 1st. i think though the jets would be making a mistake to trade up with the 29 and 35th to grab him. i'm sure the new regime wants to make a spash, and thats great but they should have a gut check and think more about the team, if they only want to get a 'top-tier' QB in the draft for that reason. i don't think thats really true, but i think we can all agree that that is what happened when we got robertson. i'm not dissapointed with him, but the two picks to me, would have been better off, in any situation. there are plenty of rounds and plenty of players to draft, i just hope the jets don't make a rash decisions in an attempt to make news so to speak.
