Quite a rah-rah fluff piece, but there is quite a bit of truth to what he says. I love Rex, no 3 year plans ala Herm and Mangini, no f'ing excuses. I hope his bravado carries through their first loss next season.

The writer does contradict himself though... He says this is a Jets team that will play to it's own strengths regardless of the other team, and then bashes Mangini for not playing to other team's weaknesses. I want the first but could agree with the latter. It just goes to show how lost Mangini was in his final season.

This is why I call myself Firemangini Ed. Its certainly not because I'm a fireman or my real name is Edward.

Personally, I have always believed that players attitude and determination go a long way in the building of a successful football team. Also, the confidence of the coaching staff should be reflected by the team. Mangini always looked to me like he was being asked a question that he didn't know the answer to. On the football field I took this to mean he was never quite sure how to respond to what the other team was doing. How could we expect to win with an unsure, uninspired man at the top? Ryan's approach is geared towards setting a confident tone at every position, at every level. This is why Mike Tyson was so successful early on in his career. Tyson usually had his opponent beat BEFORE the fight. The fear factor was huge. The truth is that even when the Jets are playing well and winning some games, the aura around this team is has been weak.
The last time I remember teams needing to fear us was the Parcells era. If Ryan can accomplish that much, look out. The man will become a god in NY.

My favorite line from the article:

"Rex Ryan's Jets don't care about the other team. As far as he's concerned, they're only in the way."

I'm ready for some smash mouth football! Most of all I hope we bring some smash mouth ball against the Patsies. Pressure Brady and make him think about his knee. Smack Moss in the mouth at the LOS. Sandwich Welker between Scott and Harris when he tries to come across the middle. That's gonna be some fun shit to watch.

I agree completely. I even made mention of this the other night at the TGG bash.

Ah yes. All it takes to win is "tough" and "attitude."

Of course he's gotta expect to "win big." It was probably a condition of his contract that he talk that way. No room for four year plans. Gotta keep selling those PSLs now.

I took that picture and then I banged both those chicks. Then I killed Osama bin Laden, but I buried him so no one would know.

It's good, but not the best. The one I like is of the girl at the beach wearing all the rainbow colors.

Gotta love what you hear coming from Rex. The one thing I do not worry about, is him standing at the podium in December as we are staring 1-15 in the face and saying, "I just don't know why we can't win."

Not at all. But with him I also don't see us being 1-15 in December. Call me crazy

Its all talk. We have issues all over this roster, I am glad he's talking big and I am so glad Mangini's gone, he's game planning was awful, but we have a lot issues that need to be resolved all over the roster and because we have had 13 picks in 3 years, we are have issues with backups all over the place.

when mangini took over i liked the patriot like approach. it was refreshing after listening herm talk about drinking kool-aid, getting a ride on the bus, and whatever analogy he came up with to entertain the reporters on a given week. this approach from rex is in a different category. this is what a football coach should sound like. i don't have any delusions that talk is going to translate to success, but expecting success not only from himself but from every player on the team is not a bad thing.

I don't think 314 is complaining, he's just being a realist. I like brash talk too, but let's see where we are after 8 games or so. If we're 8-0, I'll go with the talk. If we're 2-6, Ryan will look a little foolish talking trash.

We do have backup issues. We've got to be concerned about that. I like the way Ryan thinks though. I have no problem with positive thinking and I do believe it's contagious.

Nothing like positive reinforcement by mom until dad gets home and kicks your ass. Dad gets home in September. Enjoy the positive reinforcement that mom's dishing out for the summer.
