I THINK we might've seen this data before, but its a new article so here you go: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afceast/0-8-34/Point-of-attack--Jets-run-blocking.html
O boy. You opened a can of worms with this one. Brick is still young enough to improve his craft. He has to.
Yeah, Brick isn't 4th overall pick material yet, but he's been pretty solid so far... and he has to deal with some elite pass rushers in the AFC East. I think he'll get there... he's been improving every season IMO.
I understand it was last in the division but I don't even think 5 plays over the course of the whole season is that bad.
Yeah you'd think so... Either way, I'm very impressed by Mangold though, what a monster he has become. Just goes to show you, if you want a good lineman, make sure he looks like a Viking!
As far as D'Brick goes, he is a great long term prospect and will only get better as he ages (provided he stays healthy). He's quick and is an amazing finesse blocker now, and as he gets older he will get the bulk to help him run block more effectively. The experience at that point will allow him to continue being a great pass blocker.
The thing that sucks about Brick is that we paid him a ransom already and when is contract comes due he will want a ransom again albeit his has not lived up to his billing. The problem is that during his second contact he will likely fill out and mature into the blocker we wanted him to be.
He's already a very good pass blocker and approaching dominant in that category. He was never projected to be a top run blocker. I don't think he's far away from what they were hoping to draft, although you'd obviously like to see him continue to improve the run blocking.
Don't worry about D'Brick. Most linemen get fatter when they get older. His run blocking will gradually, steadily improve over the course of his career.
d'bricks' in next year's probowl and yes we need to stop running his way. LT is one of my last worries with this team.
now I know why they fired Mangini--great run blocking, but on 4th and inches from mighty Seattle's 3 yard line, Mangini kicks a field goal. We never sniff the goal line again and lose.
street: sorry to get you started. Even Tony Richardson was gaining yards on the initial drive where Eric the Dead chose the field goal.
I think Tony Richardson deserves a lot more credit than he is getting. He was a battering ram all year long, I felt sorry for the people he was hitting. I think Richardson is the biggest reason TJ had a career year.
all he does is block for 1,000+ yard backs. That sentence needs to changed to - he creates 1,000+ yard backs
i agree with both of you. this guy has been great for some time now and happens to play the most overlooked position on the field. he is a great run blocker and i will agree as much as i like thomas jones and stand up for him here that he would not have had the season he had last year without richardson. that man is a blocking machine!
If we have anything remotely resembling competent play calling we should have a pretty good rushing attack. We're gonna see a healthy dose of 8 man boxes tho
