The Ravens ran a smash mouth ball control gameplan in 2000 when they won the title. Jamal Lewis was their starter with 1,364 yards, as a rookie... Sure, he was a 5th pick overall, which in hindsight makes him quite a reach but he was still a rookie.
i'd like jones for edwards straight up...but then they would need to add another option at running back...greene and washington wouldnt be enough..considerin how run heavy the offense will be this year
1. So how magnificent was TJ's production the year prior to last year? 1 TD, with dismal 3.6 ypc. Are you REALLY sure the last season's rushing king crown belongs to TJ, and not the vastly improved OL? *You are being stupid here.* 2. Leon's lack of strength may be the problem (i.e. Adalius Thomas ate him AND Favre alive in one play.) but his size is definitely not the problem - Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, and other HoF calibre running backs share similar dimensions with Leon, when it comes to height and weight. Don't give me that shit. 3. If I happen to disagree with the trade, that's more or so because I just HATE Braylon Edwards - teams always need blue-collar workers, (i.e. Bart Scott) and not self-absorbed divas . One drama queen on the squad is one too many, if you ask me. *Call me old-school, if you care.* To me, Braylon Edwards is a personification of me-me-me WR that doesn't deserve to belong to this league.
Man, I missed this totally clueless post. The fact that you seem to think Thomas Jones is a power runningback is the best part of all. TJ is anything but a power back. That's why they drafted Greene. Durrrr.
...and only lost to Curtis Martin by like 1 yard for the title another season. Lewis had been one of my fantasy football go to guys for years, but he didn't deserve to be drafted where he was. Guys like Lewis, and Martin for that matter, come out of the 3rd round every year. They just usually have to wait their turn until the overpaid high round guy goes down. They lack breakaway speed, and get their yards by racking up insane amounts of carries. RB's aren't going to get 35+ carries a game in this day and age. Though my point was, just about any quality RB would have helped the Ravens win the title behind that OL, and more importanty that defense, in 2000. Wash and Greene are more than enough to get the job done. Don't forget our castoff Ward has a SB ring as a major contributor to the Giants.
let's take it east with the 'whatever it takes' talk. I think this deal could work for us - but let's not throw away picks. Looking at it from our perspective: sure TJ's value is less than Braylon's but there isn't anyone else knocking down Cleveland's door for Edwards. There is a reason why and we should leverage that. TJ and a fourth should be enough to get it done if we are patient. Anything more than that is overpaying imo (relative to market value). it's not like Edwards is the piece that puts our team over the top. If we miss the boat I doubt our FO/CS sheds any tears.
Giants are in the hunt for him!!! And since the G-Men have won a superbowl it looks like a more attractive place to play...
Also as far as throwing away picks its too late we did that already in the draft for unproven players so why not the same for someone who knows how to play and will be a true #1
To state as fact that he is a true #1 and proven is flat out not true. He is a risk and a gamble. If he were as surefire as you make him sound then the price for playing poker would be much higher and there would be a bidding war going on right now. As much as I love the potential of Edwards - it remains to be seen whether he is the player of last year or the year prior. He also comes with certain locker room issues which might be very dangerous to our team chemistry here. The media is a bit more invasive here then it is in Cleveland.
TJ is a system player in imo. An unhappy aging system player who happens to play RB. Don't make the mistake of overrating him.
Even if Gholston did replace him he would still be needed for depth. After our starters who do we have? I'm hoping Rex tries out Gholston at DE. Let's see what this kid can do at his natural position and one of desperate need.
It just brings two players to mind when i think of TJ... First off not even hating on him he has a been a steady back for us but from the start i didnt really want him on the team but thas my opinion.. but he reminds me of the Keyshawn/Abraham ordeal... Any player that puts himself before the team im always all for shipping em out.. If your worried about money then this aint the place for you.. when is enough money enough money before you just say imma play for the love of the game.. TJ and many other players have made millions of dollars already.. Quit complaining and being unhappy and not showing up to meetings and practice for you own selfish needs... If you were a real class act you would come to practice express im not happy with the contract and still play and show and prove play harder and they will see.. instead they are control by you so called friend/agent who tells you you should sit out TJ till we get this money which only puts money in his agents pocket in the end!! Im no genious but i know those facts!!
Oh come on this is all bullshit... look at the offers the Browns rejected by the Giants for Edwards... why should they accept Thomas and a 2nd (or a third)? TJ value (as we said many times) is nothing much. My guess is this year TJ plays with us and next year he gets cut and goes to the Browns...
