Reggie McNeal, QB, Texas A&M Although I am getting very sick of all these threads about sleepers that we should take late in the draft, I was reading this player profile and thought I was reading about Michael Vick. His weaknesses were EXACTLY the same (not enough touch, runs before passes) and I think we can all agree that we would LOVE to have the next Michael Vick. With the right coaching and the right system, I dont see why McNeal couldn't be great. This is why I am wondering if anyone has watched him play in an actual game. While these player reports are great, they are no subsitution to watching a guy in action. Anyways, here is his player profile... I apologize if there has already been a thread about him, but I couldn't find it.
McNeal is worth the risk early round 2. I like him a lot to be a Vick-type player. However, with the backlash from Vick's play, I don't know if he'd get the chance. Besides, Texas A&M seemed to play better with the backup playing than with McNeal playing, which scares me some.
He allegedly has an attitude problem. Like he comes off as a dick and doesnt really inspire his teammates. I've seen him play and hes impressive, but i dont think what i saw him do to college defenses would happen to NFL defenses. Too much scrambling. I dont care what Mike Vick has done. Vick is a borderline pro bowler(only got in because there arent many good qbs in the nfc) and can be shutdown.
Early round 2?? Did you mean Day 2?? Please tell me you did. McNeal's a good athlete, but he flat out can't play Quarterback in the NFL. His arm strength is good, not elite, not at the level where he can overcome his other extreme faults. He has awful technique, it's like he's throwing on the run every time he takes a snap; can't get comfortable in the pocket even if he's got all day. He's got some potential as a WR, because of that athleticism, but that's about it. Though, I still feel that Brad Smith is the best QB-WR option in this class. Also, his backup, Stephen McGee, is a quality young QB in his own right, really gave Texas all they could handle for a while.
