http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/05/sanchez_is_decent_at_second_da.html Sanchez is ``decent'' at second day New York Jets rookie minicamp by Dave Hutchinson Saturday May 02, 2009, 12:56 PM Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez was solid, if unspectacular, in today's morning session on the second day of the Jets' three-day rookie minicamp at Florham Park. With the installation of the offense intensifying, he and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer huddle after nearly every play. In the morning session, Sanchez completed nine-of-14 passes in seven-on-seven drills with at least three drops and was one-of-three in 11-on-11 drills. In 11-on-11, he did miss a wide open Marcus Henry, who got behind cornerback Manny Collins on a deep corner route. Instead, he threw a check-down pass. William Perlman/The Star-Ledger Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez (6) delivers a pass to fellow rookie Paul Raymond (2) at the Jets Rookie Minicamp at the Jets Training Facility in Florham Park, NJ Saturday May 2, 2009. ``It was a decent day,'' said Sanchez, who lit it up on Friday. ``Not my best day. I felt comfortable with the calls. Sometimes I wasn't on the same page with the receivers.'' Sanchez said his biggest challenge now is learning the playbook. ``So far, so good,'' said coach Rex Ryan when asked how Sanchez was absorbing the offense. ``But once you put in three straight weeks of it, we'll see. So far, it's not overwhelming. ... Ryan had a couple of interesting comments on a couple of other subjects in his news conference: On LB Jamaal Westerman: Ryan said Westerman has impressed him with his ability to make the transition for DE to LB. Also, he said the Jets targeted him early as an undrafted free agent and Westerman turned down $12,000 more from another NFL team to sign with the Jets. On RB Shonn Greene: ``I love the way guys bounce off him,'' said Ryan, who just so happened to have a picture of Greene flatting a ballboy who was holding a blocker pad duriing a drill. ``Unfortunately, some of the passes bounce off him. ... Those are things we can work on.'' Notes: Henry, a sixth-round pick in 2008, had several drops in the morning after having a big day o Friday. ... Ryan repeated how impressed he's been with rookie free agent tryout TE Jack Simmons but said the team is keeping its options open regarding the signing of a veteran. ... Ex-Cleveland State basketball star J' Nathan Bullock made a couple of nifty catches and Ryan said he has a little more natural ability than many basketball players trying to make the switch to football. ... Ryan said he's a big horse racing fan (he once owned a couple of horses) and was looking forward to watching the Kentucky Derby.
him missing Henry for the check down is exactly what Mike Mayock criticized Sanchez for. The reason why he does that: Lack of experience. he needs to sit for a little while during the season... he's so talented, but not polished.
Since I am not sure if you are just joking I will say this... Maybe it is just because he is still learning the offense? I mean this really is only day 2.
Wow. This is very disappointing, I was sure by day 2 he would use his heat vision to melt cb's. Then he would feed the entire press corps with only one fish and one loaf of bread.
I almost spat gatorade on my monitor when I read that. Rofl. But seriously, I hope I'm sensing sarcasm from everyone lol. The kid is still learning, and from what we've seen so far he learns pretty quickly.
