Beat writer Rich Cimini envisions a "Drew Brees/Philip Rivers situation" in New York if Kellen Clemens wins the Jets' starting job over Mark Sanchez. -Rotoworld.com Basically what this means is if Kellen plays well in 2010, we trade him away to someone who needs a QB. Thoughts?
I mean if Clemens plays well, we will have to decide on whether to keep both QBs or trade one of them. I'm sure no one will be complaining if this is how it plays out.
Yes it is actually, and starting him just to see if we can get some teams notice would be great. Maybe we could score an extra 1st round pick next year. (???)
This is the last year on KC's contract. So to trade him we would have to franchise him or resign him. I doubt he will resign now that its clear that Sanchez is Woody's son. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with Frisco, their OC is our old RB coach. I bet if Jimmy Raye gives him the thumbs up Frisco will make an offer.
What's the betting that Clemens out performs Sanchez in pre-season and then has a career year, we have to either re-sign him and do something with Sanchez and the boat load of guaranteed money that he will command, or franchise him trade him away and watch him perform for another team.
hmmmm...Clemens will be a FA in 2010..better chance they trade him today or this summer then resign him. As far as beating out Sanchez..forget that idea completely..he will never have that chance to try. You don't pay somebody 60 or 70 million to sit.
Clemens would need to start and play well to have any trade value. Cimini's article mentions it as a "possibility," but it's not presented as a likelihood. It's more likely that Sanchez opens the season as the starter, or replaces an ineffective Clemens by midseason. You know, unless he's also a favorite of Mangini or something.
that would be a great scenario, obviously San Diego didnt envision Brees becoming what he has eventually becoming we could only pray that happens so we can get a pick for him
Best scenario is Clemens wins the job out of camp, plays very well next year, well enough to convince people he has value, we franchise him and trade him for picks, and Sanchez steps in and wins Super Bowls.
