We gave up a second rounder in a very weak draft and three backups for a potential franchise quarterback. Mike Mayock had him ranked above Matt Stafford... Jon Gruden, who some consider an offensive genius, called him the best bet to be a franchise signal caller... Phil Simms was blown away by Sanchez - I'd say that doesn't happen too often. His head coach Pete Carroll said that Sanchez has the strongest arm out of any USC QB since Carson Palmer. So the fact that he was a top recruit coming out of high school is a knock? Stafford played on a very good SEC team with good receivers and a very good running back...should we write him off too?
There are no guarantees. Some of the criticism is an attack on the draft itself. Successful teams are built on getting players who have never played a down in the NFL and are not guaranteed. Should players on top teams never be chosen? By that logic, Josh Freeman becomes a better choice because K-State was 5-7. And Peyton Manning would be a lousy choice, because Tennessee surrounded him with top-notch talent every year. Unless someone has some brilliant plan to get another team to part with a top-notch QB in his prime, you have to go after it. I was one of the Giants' harshest critics for the Manning deal. They gave up a lot and won a Super Bowl. It wasn't all Manning, but you don't win without going for it.
i wasnt too excited by this move at first and i still dont think sanchez is going to be a stud but as long as the jets find another end to start opposite ellis i cant really argue with the logic here
Already on the roster... Marques Douglas... and Vernon Gholston is going to see time with his hand on the ground... i know i know... the sky is falling we need a DE. We need a TE and WR more than a DE.
Deep down do you really believe this guy is that good, or is he just what is around in this draft this year??? During the college season last year before all this pre-draft hype started I never once thought, what a talent that guy Sanchez is. I suppose it is not as bad as what the 49ers got stuck with a couple of years ago, but my gut tells me he will not be elite. Hopefully I am wrong.
Those who hate this move are just pessimistic Jet fans who seem to overlook the great success we have had in the draft in recent years. Look this is a great trade, Mayock had Sanchez as his top rated QB. Sanchez is so pro ready its insane. Also its not like the Browns went out and used those picks for great players. I dont understand how the same people who laughed at the Browns for picking up our crumbs, are then flipping out when we give more of them to Cleveland. Cleveland did nothing on day one to help their defense, their biggest concern. so Far we have dominated this trade. On paper it doesn't look like it, but when you look at the detail we kicked ass with this move
I'm a Jets fan I look at taped highlights like everyone else. He looks like he has a quick release and runs the show with a sense of urgency but not panic. Makes nice throws in traffic in the pocket moves nicely has outstanding footwork and isn't afraid in the pocket. Throws well on the run as well. Speaks well, seems very intelligent and doesn't seem like the type to fold when there's some adversity. Deep down I'm a Jets fan and I'm pumped up to get a guy who I do think has a chance to be a top NFL QB and the cornerstone of the team I love for years.
Actually we gave up a starter and two backups as well as a 2nd. Like Coleman or not he was the starter and with Ellis's age and "other" problems lately I'd say we now have a glaring hole at DE. I don't care about his HS career, I was saying having the best offensive weapons around him means he had ideal conditions to succeed. Your original argument talked about being at SC (their scheme aside) as being a huge plus... I disagree for his future. I will give you Phil Simms's assessment, but I disagree that Gruden is an offensive genius. Where is he working right now? His offenses have been less than impressive and his SB win came off the strength of is defense. Pete Carroll wanted him to stay back a year maybe for the selfish reason of SC winning, but I believe it is because Carroll didn't think he was ready. That's my opinion. Hopefully I am wrong.
Maybe you should change your profile name to Brick-Head. Might not start...what the hell are you smoking?
Actually, deep down I believe this guy is potentially that good. Quick release, good field presence, good if not great arm, accurate, good movement, good leader. He may not be the league's number 1 quarterback, but he has what it takes to be a winner in the NFL.
There are just fans who loves the drama of endless decent vs. undrafted FA QB battles. Then they are some fans that think they know more about scouting and players then the people in the front line, they went out to get Favre and Sanchez for a reason... Because seriously, as Jets fans we should be excited about this trade. And understand that they just made the best pick for the Franchise.
Look winston I'm with you... been watching this team for over 30 years!! I hope you're right!! I love the Jets. I'm still mad about the way last year ended!! I am tired of those kinds of endings, it just happens to often. I am also out of patience to deal with any kind of building. What happened today makes it almost a given we are not going to the playoffs this year, you know it deep down. This idea of play great defense and hand it off is horseshit especially because we don't have that good of a D. I am glad you are pumped about him hopefully being a cornerstone, but I think I am just out of patience right now.
I love the fact that you tell me I know nothing then you start quoting other people's opinions. Shows you are clearly loving the taste of Sanchez's choad.
average at best players... this trade was a steal for 1 of the top 2 QB's in the draft... end of story
Remeber 02 when Chad was healthy and the team had a leader that brought a little magic. He got hurt it didn't last but it was fun because we had a future before it crashed and burned. If you have a guy playing for you that gives you hope for the future the rebuilding can be a lot of fun. Part of the problem of not having a really good QB is you never really see the finish line and Sunday isn't as fun as it should be. Enjoy this, the Cavs haven't won squat since they got King James but the ride's been pretty good. I'm allready waiting to see this guy get put on his back for the first time to see what he's made of.
I can honestly say this is one of my happiest days as a Jets' fan. I've followed Mark Sanchez's career since he was a junior in high school -- one of my favorite prospects of all time. This is a new fucking era for this team. Sorry for you older fans that are tired of waiting...
I feel for you. The patience level is down, I understand. Perhaps you should take some time off, come back in a few years when you think they're ready to compete.
