We seriously robbed the Browns in this. Gave away an ok run stuffer but no pass rush at all DE, a below average safety who gets beat WAY to often, a QB who has only shown promise in preseason against third stringers, and a second rounder in a weak draft class.

We have Sanchez, who is promising to be GREAT. Look at all the hype he has been getting, more hype then Stafford lately. This is great, he is just the quarterback we need.

They might hate it now but they will be a handful of the 11,000 fans cheering him on at any given home game in the first and fourth quarter for the next 15 years.

Easily... We traded a 2nd rounder and players for a guy that might not start. We could have traded down and gotten impact players. But we got a guy that played 16 games...

Do you get a chance to get a Franchise QB for pretty much a 2nd rounder every year? When that happens, I want you guys against this to message me.

    to poster above,
the first is irrelevant, since we made a first round pick ( a higher 1st pick) making it a wash, what we "gave up" was the 2nd, and players

Who cares if he doesn't start RIGHT AWAY? People like you have no knowledge of the game...it's hilarious how little you know.

Impact players? Name a player in this draft that can do more for this team than Mark Sanchez in the long run.

He only started 16 games because he was on of the most talented teams in the country. When you play for a dynasty, you wait your turn...he's been practicing in a pro-style system for four seasons now...

I'm not a huge Sanchez fan but this wasnt a bad trade. The first e gave up means nothing because we got a first back obviously. So we gave up a second round pick. Well moving from 17 to 5 is going to cost us something and Sanchez was a highly touted player.

As for the players we gave up? I'm not a Kenyon Coleman fan. Brett Ratliff was a undrafted FA QB. I had no problem with him getting a shot to compete to be the starter but I also wouldnt let him stand in the way of getting a guy with the potential that Sanchez has. And Elam is a nice player. He's nothing special though.

I think we made a good trade here. I was holding out hope for Crabtree but I dont hate the Sanchez pick.

People hate on this because history has taught us to expect the worst.

That said, our biggest question coming into 2008 was QB, and we addressed it poorly by swapping a question mark in Pennington/Clemens for an aging exclamation point in Favre.

This year, our biggest question was again QB, and we addressed it by drafting arguably the best QB in the draft.

    I'll take it.

Also, as Jets fans, we consistently bang our spoon on the high chair when we perceive things to not go our way. We trade away some draft picks and some unspectacular players (how many PSLs was Abram Elam selling? How many Coleman jerseys are there in the parking lot on Sunday?), and people freak out because we gave up some knowns for a giant unknown. Just because it's new, doesn't mean it's bad guys, chill out.

We have a brand new coaching staff that will take time (1yr+) to sort throught the roster and find the right guys to keep and the right guys to ditch to make this a championship team. We have an OL that is good and should be for the next 3-4 years, we have a good secondary and good RBs, with question marks at WR, D-line and some unresolved LB issues. Considering that Ryan is trying to get us to the playoffs this year and to compete for a title in 2-3 years, Sanchez will be a fully operational death star by that point. The likes of Elam, Coleman & Ratliff may or may not be in the league.

It was a good draft. In the words of Douglas Adams, Don't Panic.

This is a team that, with the exception of a couple of years of Pennington, hasn't really had a franchise QB since Namath. Year after year, we watch the draft and are frustrated because they won't make the deal to get the impact player. Sanchez stands a chance of being an excellent QB for years. If you think he's the guy, you have no choice but to go after him. What did they give up? A 2nd round pick, who could turn out to be a solid player, Coleman, a role player at best, Elam, OK but nothing special and Ratliff, who apparently was in the process of flaming out. There are no guarantees, but I don't see how you don't make this deal. For once, they have made me incredibly happy with their draft.

Ryan and Shotty worked him out and loved him outright loved him. He made every throw good quick release stong frame and he has off the chart leadership skills and we are getting him from a team that ran a pro set and he is still young enough to sit a year and than be ready when his class is graduating. If Clemens shows something we still own his rights we will get something back if he shows something.

Rex Ryan bloodline is D but his father was a NY Jet when Joe was the franchise. You need a dynamic QB to lead your team and we got the most dynamic QB in this draft and by all accounts a guy who has outstanding skills, upside and is a great kid. That's the kind of kid you build a winner around.

We all think we know what these guys will do in the pros but we really don't know. Fact is we need a QB and Sanchez is the guy our management loves. If he busts so be it but I'm pumped up.

We got Favre as a stop gap with a shot at getting lucky. We got Sanchez to be the guy we build our next SB team around. I couldn't be happier. We now have an opportunity in a year or two to have the best QB in our division and compete every year not just to get the invitation to the playoffs but have a shot to win the playoffs.

It's hilarious how little YOU know. You make your whole argument based on the assumption this kid is going to be an elite, top 5 QB in this league some day. That will probably never happen. All the analysts said the same thing: He is decent to good, but not "special". You don't give up that much for someone who isn't special. Somebody else mentioned hype. This kid is a salesman. He did TV interviews and talked about how good he was, and in my eyes generated his own buzz. I couldn't believe how teams were falling for it. Let's face it, he's not that special, no where near a Peyton Manning coming out of college, or a John Elway coming out of college. If he is any better than Matt Leinart, I would be surprised. By the way playing on the most talented team in the country is a knock against him. That means he had the best line and playmakers around him to make his life a lot easier. He is not gonna have that with the Jets that's for sure.

Fact is we don't make this move unless our management believes he has a shot to be a outright stud NFL QB. If they blew that call after doing their home work this team isn't going anywhere anyway.

Because some people will shit on whatever happens just for the remote possibility they can become part of the "i told you so", "I could be a better GM" crowd.

Experts rank Sanchez ahead of Stafford and Freeman and the least likely to bust.

We finally make a move for a franchise qb and everyone moans. Unreal
