Looking back on my 08 Ourlad's draft guide, I found some interesting notes on Gholston. Here are the negatives:
1.) Can get locked up by a physical tackle that knows how to use his hands.
2.) Not a hell bent of leather player on ball away.
3.) Looks like he's saving himself.
    4.) Can be single blocked.
5.) Hand fights with tackle too much.
6.) Will hit but no wrap.
    7.) Question intensity and instincts.
8.) His game is full of inconsistencies.

Let's hope Ryan can can work his magic and we will see a new VG this year.

Well 1,4,5,6 and 8 can be fixed with coaching.

I'm not sure what 2 and 3 mean.

The big problem that I am concerned with that CAN'T be coached is 7.

Technique is clearly his major problem. Also learning a new position obviously tampered with progress. Technique is something that can be improved if the player is dedicated and wants to win. I think we should all be calling for his head if he shows nothing after year TWO not one.... I think RR will make a player out of him.

How different is shedding a block for a lineman and a linebacker?

It isn't, but he didn't get playing time last year. Rex Ryan is going to do good things with Gholston. It takes time to learn a new position.

I'm optimistic about what Ryan can get out of Gholston but thoughts of the SOJ still nag at the back of my mind.

Russ Lande of GMjr.com and the Sportingnews war room had VG as very overrated.

You forgot that he prefers the #50 which is the amount of snaps he plays against all year.

I'm still trying to figure out what that means. Is that English? Yoda-speak?

I think 2,3 and 7 are all saying the same thing..he really don't give a shit now that he got the money and of course all of that was said even before he was drafted.

Using the same approach I use to decipher my 3-year old, I think it means that he gets real lazy when the ball is not in his general area of the field.

#2 means he won't chase down a ballcarrier from the other side of the field.

he pulls up in practice. He's not a football player.
