a)To move up to 8 from 17 is 9 spots b)Do we have a 5th rounder this year? c)It's not about moving up its about doing it before the draft. The reason is for Sanchez, no guarantee hes there at 8
You asked why it could done. I was giving the explanation of how it could get done. We are not a team 1 player away from winning the superbowl or even winning our own division. That is the reason i say no to this trade. Especially before the day itself if it was their time to draft and we really loved someone there then I might take the risk of it.
Trading to 8 means one of these players will absolutely be available... Stafford Curry Jason Smith Orakpo Raji Macklin Sanchez Crabtree. To me these are the top 8 in the draft that would fit needs. I know tackle isnt as pressing but Woody is getting older and if Jason Smith fell to 8 which is extremely improbable unless the rams go Monroe and the Seahawks go Sanchez, I'd shit my pants. Either way one of them will be available whereas at 17, we're talking about either reaching for Nicks or Gilbert or staying put and taking Tyson Jackson who probably won't even be there.
I know. See above. Only reason I even brought it up was because it is the general rule for draft trades that the points for the chart matter. Nobody follows the rule 100% of the time though.
Why are we always the ones trading up and squandering all of our picks? We should take a not and trade down like New England and have a ton of pick per year. We have a lot of holes and a 4 pick draft would not put us in a good position to fill them.
If they felt that any of these guys would be worth surrendering the two picks for, maybe that would make sense, but it would be really hard to believe that they would think so.
Given that the Redskins are in love with Sanchez and they have a history of over paying with draft picks, doing this deal before the pick is on the clock is INSANE.
I don't think it's insane at all. You trade for the 8th pick. So, Sanchez is gone,,, someone will slip there, maybe Crabtree etc... 8th is a nice pick in this draft,,, you get a real good player no matter what.
You also can't fill needs around the team because you have traded away all your picks. You pay more money for a gamble, every player coming out of college is a gamble. Stay put, draft the BPA and address team needs. Lets not do a Washington and under estimate the value of these picks, 3 picks would be a nightmare, we are 5-6 pieces away
Mayock has stated on numerous occasions that the real value of the first round is at the back end of the round..which is why a lot of the teams picking in the top 10 are trying to trade out.......trading into the first round would be a horrible move, IMO.
Why the hell so many people are willing to sell their own mother and the family silver to get the next big thing is beyond me , We still don't know what our current crop can do. Next season there will be a better QB on offer, and yet again everyone will want him , and the next year , and the next year.......
I like Mark Sanchez more than Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy -- both will be next year's top rated QBs unless Jimmy Clausen leaves Notre Dame early. I'm working on 2010's top prospects - I'll post it after the draft. Next year has potential to be the best draft ever...
I'm 100% with you on this one, it doesn't make logical sense to pick a QB this season while mortgaging our draft, when we don't know what we have, and the QB class that will be available next season. Apparently per Cimini, the Jets don't want Freeman at 17 because he is a project......well Sanchez at 8 is still a project, he has 16 starts to his name. Like i said, no logic, and Mike T will be fast tracking his firing by making this move.
going one step further, when Clemens was coming out of college, he graded out higher than all the QBs in this years draft. give him a shot with a real o-line, don't trade up and save the picks.
Really wow I think Colt McCoy is the best of next years bunch. Clausen hasn't done anything to impress me yet.
Moving up for anyone in the top 10 does not make much sense. Giving up a 2nd and a 4th leaves the Jets without depth. Furthermore, taking Sanchez is ludicrous. First of all, he is not a sure thing. We already have 3 not sure things at QB - why gamble with a 4th one and for alot of $$$$. If Sanchez is picked - it's goodbye Clemens figuratively and literally. The Jets need picks to build up depth in the trenches. I feel they will be patient and let the board come to them - if there is someone highly rated at #17 they will take him - if not, they will trade down if possible to accrue another 4th or 5th. Every year there are a million rumors about the Jets intentions. Part of this is due to MT's due diligence in covering all possible scenarios, others are simply false rumors/poor reporting, possible smokescreens by the Jets, etc. Look at last year - there were all kinds of Jet rumors. The rumors had the Jets trading up, down, sideways, Gholston, no Gholston. After all the mumbo jumbo no one - no one saw the Kellers pick coming. This year is no different.
Because if it did happen (I don't think the rumor is true since we sent our 5th to Philly for Sheppard) we would be left with 4 draft picks in the 09 draft. So while moving up for that #8 pick looks great on the value chart, it looks horrible when you consider we will have only a 1st, 4th from NO for Vilma, and a 6th and 7th. Our 3rd is gone from Favre Our 5th is gone from Sheppard.
