There is a significant difference between letting a player you have under contract learn from his mistakes and get back on the field, and drafting a player with similar issues.

Could Harvin be a stud? Yes, he could. But roughly 30 or so guys drafted after 17 will be studs as well, and some of them don't have the question marks that Harvion does.

The real comparison is this: If you were the Dolphins, and you knew Ricky's potential AND his drawbacks, would you have traded for him? I don't think so.

You obviously never watched a single game he played in then. That piece of glass consistently breaks 3-4 tackles every time he has the ball. Everyone knows about his speed, but what they don't know is his elusiveness. Defenders grab and pull at him but he always finds a way to get out tackles.

The reason he gets hurt is because defenders have to take cheap shots at him to bring him down (i.e. this years National Championship game) A game which by the way he shouldn't really have played in because he was injured. But he still played because it meant that much to him, and he had one hell of game.

And back to the pot for a second. People nowadays are way to unforgiving. Have you never made a mistake in your life? You've never done something that afterwards you wish you hadn't done? He is a human just like all of us, and is susceptible to making a mistake just like anyone else. People learn from their mistakes and try to do better the next time.

Yeah, that's all true, but if I got stoned before the drug test at a job interview, I wouldn't say, "Hey, I was young, people make mistakes, you should still hire me." It doesn't matter how amazing I am at flipping burgers or writing legal briefs or passing legislation; I'm not getting hired.

EDIT: And how are you so certain he's learned from his mistakes? This didn't happen his freshman year; this just happened! "People learn from their mistakes" is not a gaurantee. Many, many people never learn from their mistakes. The NFL is full of them. Has TO learned from his mistakes?

I don't really give a shit HOW he was injured....the fact remains...he was slowed by injuries....missed 5 games in 3 years. The NFL schedule is longer than the college schedule....do you think he's going to hold up by week 11 or week 12??

I don't want to waste a pick on this guy.....especially when we have a guy on the roster with his skillset already in Leon Washington.

I haven't even mentioned his off-the-field antics....that's another conversation that i don't care to get into....but i will say this....i don't want any part of that shit on the Jets roster ...and I'm sure Rex doesn't either.

If Moreno is there at No. 17 it should be an absolute no brainer that we take him. I can't imagine a scenario where he's not the best player available.

I have no problem with him smoking
But in the NFL you get banned if you are caught
That makes it difficult for a team to game plan when one of the players is unable to play

    See the Giants with Plexico

No. He's the wrong type of receiver for what we need, at least as far as spending a first is concerned. He'll be a great asset for another team, though.

That's a horrible username, btw. Child Porn + Slow Masturbation = Terrific Day? You should be ashamed of yourself.

He got hurt multiple times Last Year and This year. And one of the times he got hurt this year is when he got run over by FSU Linebacker Nigel Bradeum and it wasnt a cheap show at all.

He is a great player, and I wouldnt mind if we took him I know he will do big things in the NFL but to say he only gets hurt on cheap shots is wrong.

Living in NE FL, I'm a casual Gator fan. While my Sundays are dedicated to football, I'm a "casual" college fan, mostly watching the marquee matchups/SEC, but I do watch the "good" Gator games usually (when I'm not fishing, surfing, etc)

Percy is a great athletic talent, and a great COLLEGE football player, but I'm not sure how that will translate to the NFL. He seems to be a "jack of all trades" type of player depending on his speed to out class the (often lesser) competition. This doesn't always translate to the NFL (Reggie Bush #2?) He has the potential to make an impact on the right team, but for the JETS sake, I hope they won't select him #17 as I would much rather have a dedicated receiver if they decided to go that route.
Personally I hope they go in a whole different direction, but that's a different matter.

Round 2 on the other hand........ game on.

I agree-no Wr at 17. Trade down and take Wr between 23-30. Use extra picks for depth. No first day QB or RB either.

I don't know anything about Moreno except what they show on highlight reels.
Sorry to say, but I'm not too impressed.
Those spin moves will get him killed in the NFL and his juke moves are not fluid enough for my taste.
He doesn't have the center of gravity I would look for and he definitely reminds me of Cadillac. A tough runner but he didn't last too long either. That running style will not work in the NFL. Guys are much bigger and are better disciplined.

I stopped reading at this point. The man threw away the prime of his career and the franchise had to scramble find another running back because had to 'find himself'.

Its nice to see that he had a good year.... but screw that, or anything vaguely similar.

Wow, you seriously need to change your screen name. I think Harvin will be good only by looking at a few highights. Don't know much about him, but Im not sure if I want us to go this route. A DE would be huge IMO. Secondary is all set. Revis, Lito, Rhodes, Leonhard. DL is getting old. Coleman is nothing more than your avg. DE at best. Ellis will probably be gone two yrs from now. Jenkins is also reaching up there in age so maybe a DT in the 3rd or 4th round.

    First Round: DE
    Second Round: WR
    Third Round: DT
    Fourth Round: OL
    Fifth Round: TE
    Sixth: OL
    Seventh: DE

Heyward-Bey is starting to scare me. I changed my mind and hope to God we don't take him at #17. His TD production leaves a lot to be desired, and I have a feeling he could be the next Robert Meachem.

I disagree with the premise that drafting receivers is more of a crap shoot than running backs.

For the most part I agree with what you say but I have to disagree on this one. Moreno is a player the Jets would be lucky to get him at 17 he lived in the town over from me & I watched him dominate 18 year old kids at 15. I do not have a college team so I follow local kids when they go off to college I have watched alot of Bulldog games over the last 3 years & he dominated the SEC the best conference in college football as a freshman he is a STUD & a Jet fan
