The Jets have elected not to sign Cowboys restricted free agent wide receiver Miles Austin to an offer sheet and have turned their full-time attention to the upcoming NFL draft, according to a person with knowledge of the team's thinking. Austin, a former Monmouth University star, visited the Jets last Friday but left the building without signing an offer sheet. It was a bad sign. The Jets had told Austin that they would be preparing an offer sheet but in the end they didn't want to part with a second-round pick, which would've been the compensation owed to the Cowboys if they elected not to match. What now?
The Cardinals said today they are going to take offers for Boldin. Braylon is on his way to the Giants. Our best bet at this point is to go into the draft optimistic we can find a future number one.
I think he might still be part of a trade come draft day... not saying it WILL happen but the Cowboys might want to get into round 1 and we need more picks... If they give us Austin, a 2nd and a low 3 high 4 we'd be good
the cards want a first and third for Boldin. At least thats what I've read, I wouldnt mind them doing that at all.
If they didn't make an offer than he must not have been the right fit. Either he didn't impress or he wanted more than they were willing to pay. I have a feeling it will turn out to be a good move.
I know.. me and you are the only one proposing this thing though... we should definetly give Tanny a call
This couldve been a similar situation to that of Stacy Andrews a few years ago. The jets simply using the opportunity to interview a guy and get him acquainted w/ the surroundings as an RFA for when he is a UFA assuming he continues to develop. They did this w/ Andrews a couple years back.
Boldin is injury prone. There's no way you give up a high pick for him. He's played only 12 games each of the last two seasons and that kind of thing only gets worse as you go post-prime in your career and that's where Boldin is going in the next couple of years. If you could get him for a mid 2nd it'd probably be worth doing. The 52 would be a low-risk acquisition.
Eric Smith delivered a devastating hit that broke his face. I wouldn't call the games he missed from that injury prone
