I know the last thing anyone wants to see is a QB thread, especially one involving the prospect of drafting a QB this year. I thought this was interesting however, and it seems we have spent a bit of time on him this draft process, and he says all the right things. Worth reading even if you don't agree in principle for the need of a new QB in NY.
Heard him on Boomer & Carton this morning and the kid really seems like he's got his head on straight. He said he's been invited to the draft but choose to stay home instead. Wants to be with his family and 90 yr old grandmother who wouldn't have been able to make the trip to NYC. I think woever drafts this kid will be getting a great prospect. One who if he can really live up to his potential and all the hype, stands to be a very good player in this league. Doubt it'll be us to grab him, though.
Hell of a lot better than Freeman; I'll say that. I've known about this kid since he was 9. I don't know him well, but I still get regular updates from family friends who have stayed in constant contact. He's a great kid with a good head on his shoulders, and would handle the New York media well.
Good article, RevisCB. I doubt we get this kid either, unless we trade away the farm. I'm not for doing that, but I'd reach if he somehow became available at a reasonable price. What's reasonable? Who the hell knows, which makes all this speculation... all of it... damn-near worthless.
I think he is the only player who would be worth trading up for... however we would have to give away a heck of a lot of picks. I think the luckiest team in this draft is Jacksonville because whoever wants Sanchez will have to make business with them...
He reminds me of Rex Ryan the way he throws compliments around. I'll bet you Ryan has a hard on for him.
If the FO & CS feel he could be the QB that this team desperately needs, I hope they do whatever it takes to get him. I don't care what they have to give up to make it happen.
i was a big hater on sanchez and but watching his workouts his highlights and how he handles the media i would not mind trading up for him if the price is reasonable
At least this is a thread about a new article, not somebody's opinion on our draft situation. The threads that are annoying are the ones that say "We need to/don't need to draft a QB" that are just some douche stating his opinion. This one's fine.
He is very good with the media. I'll give him that, he has an ability to say things to make you fall in love with him. I don't buy into all of that though. I still have reserved feelings on if he will be a franchise QB in this league, my gut is leaning on the bust side of things.
I not going to say he wouldn't be a good fit, but trading up will cost us dearly. I think it is more of a question on how far the guy falls. I definitely think there is a near zero chance of him falling to #17. If he is available when he gets to the Panthers at #8, then things start to get interesting. Many beleive somebody is going to trade up and get him at this spot. For it to be us, one would figure on several possiblities. Our first, and our second, and maybe like a 5th rounder next year. Or, our first this year and next year. Or lastly, a combination of our first and maybe another pick and a player. There is always an outside chance we deal with Cincinnati at #6, but the concession of picks and maybe a player would be very significant. I shy away from something like this because you are talking about giving up possibly more than what it would have taken to get Cutler here and this is for a QB with 0 NFL experience. Now, if nobody wants to deal with the Panthers at #8, and he somehow falls another spot, it gets even more interesting. But, no way does he fall any lower than San Francisco #10 and SF will not trade the pick.
As I've been saying all along, Mark Sanchez will be a New York Jet. The Jets are trading up to pick him. MARK my words, Mark Sanchez will be the Jets franchise QB.
You think we would mortgage our draft to move to the 8th spot, it's going to take a lot to get that pick.
It will not cost us dearly. It will be the best thing that we have done in a long time. The only question is which one of our stars is going to be wearing another jersey next season?
How can you seriously say that moving up to get Mark Sanchez, or any player in the draft, is worth what we give up. He could fall to 17 and it could still be a horrible pick..... Unless you're from the future.....
Well, it's true that any draft pick can turn out to be a dud (read Kellen Clemens). However, the way I see it, Sanchez looks like he has the skills and mindset to be a decent NFL QB. And I believe he impressed the Jets enough for the team to trade up to snatch him. I'm just a little concerned about who is going to be included in that trade.
