Offense? Not necessary. This is what scares me the most about Ryan as a HC. He seems to think all you need to win in the NFL is a dominant defense, and he appears content to have a QB who does nothing but hand the ball off and throw the occasional WR screen. Safe, conservative, don't turn the ball over. Let your defense win the game for you.
That's the only thing I don't agree with... i'd like the offense to be just as important. i find that frustrating.

There's been no moves out there worth making atm. No receivers in FA was worth spending big money on, and we have a shitload of complementary receivers as is....no need to sign anymore. Only receiver out there worth signing is Torry Holt and if he's looking for one more big payday before he retires than no thanks. And what's he supposed to say about the QB situation?? 'Our QBs blow I have no faith in Clemens or that dude from Utah'. Maybe our FO is targetting Sanchez and is looking to move up 10 spots and drafting Sanchez. We've been making moves on defense cus they're the moves worth making. Bart Scott is a stud ILB, Lito Sheppard could very well be the perfect complement to Darrelle Revis and we only got him for a 5th and a conditional pick that could be a steal if we use the Saints strategy and Jim Leonhard was a no brainer at 3 years 6 million. We haven't even hit the draft, this team is far from finished.
This obviously remains to be seen, but I seriously doubt we run the same offense. The ball control aspect? Yes. However, we'll mix in the deep ball to varying degrees in order to free up the short game. How much we do so likely depends on who is under center.
I think we will have the same offensive scheme, but not the same offense. Until his last season, Chad was incredibly accurate. Clemens is not (and Ratliff is a questions mark). So you are going to get a boring offensive scheme with a QB that can't execute it, most likely. I have been fairly dismissive of Ainge, but coming out of school he was considered a poor man's Chad Pennington. So, maybe he would be the best fit after all.
Really??? Last I checked, these free agents WRs didn't sign monster contracts and could have helped the Jets: Bryant Johnson Nate Washington Devery Henderson Shaun McDonald Lance Moore (RFA)
I have no idea why they didn't make a play for Nate Washington. (Then again, I am not a professional evaluator of talent.)
Washington signed a 6 year 27 million dollar contract, that's a pretty big contract and I don't think he's a number 1 receiver. Bryant Johnson isn't better than anything we have on our roster already. Henderson is a burner with great speed but questionable hands. McDonald is nothing special and again another complementary player. And Lance Moore has a second round tender, is he really worth a second round pick?
I thought the Ravens throw down field more than the quick throws once they had confidence in the QB. I suspect we will run heavy but throw over the top alot more than people think. Ryan has an attack mentality and I have a feeling when it's his ball and bat he is going to attack the field and down the field when we throw the ball.
6 years, $27mm w/ $9mm guaranteed is not #1 WR-type money. Coles got 4 years, $27mm w/ $9.75mm guaranteed from the Bengals and he is on the wrong side of 30. Houshmanzadeh who is 31 got 5 years, $40mm w/ $15mm guaranteed this offseason.
No it's not #1 money but either he or Cotchery would be our #1 and I don't know if either is suitable for the role.
I wouldn't look at either as a #1 per se, either. But the Jets would have had two big WRs that complement each other. A possession guy and a deep threat.
That all depends on who's making the calls. Is Rex calling the plays or letting Shotty take full control as was reported early on after his signing.
