A mid-round pick has almost as much chance of making it in the NFL as a 1st rounder does, but at a fraction of the pay. My three dark horse (sleeper picks) receivers that I would be very happy to get: Projected 3rd rounder Louis Murphy, Florida In two seasons he caught 75 balls for 1203 yards and 12 TDs 6' 2-1/2" tall, 203 lbs 40 times: 4.24, 4.32, 4.45 (No verticle or Broad jump numbers, but my second favorite darkhorse.) Projected 4th-5th rounder Mike Wallace, Mississippi In three seasons he caught 101 balls for 1910 yards and 15 TDs. 6' 1/2" tall, 199 lbs 40 times: 4.22, 4.28, 4.39 (Speed kills!) Verticle 40", Broad Jump 10' 9" (My favorite dark horse and well worth a 4th rounder, I would even say he is better than Murphy.) Projected possible 7th rounder or FA (this is puzzling to me) Marko Mitchell, Nevada In three seasons he caught 153 balls for 2763 yds and 22 TDs 6' 3-1/2" tall, 218 lbs 40 times: 4.36, 4.43, 4.54 Verticle 32-1/2", Broad Jump 10' 2" (He will would be a great 7th round pick. Great speed for his size and very reliable.)
The guy I like is Ramses Barden. He's 6'6. He's a guy that would be availble in the 3rd or 4th round.
Projected 3rd-4th round Ramses Barden In four seasons he caught 206 balls for 4,203 yds and 50 TDs 6' 6" tall, 229 lbs 40 times: 4.48, 4.55, 4.68 Verticle 33-1/2", Broad Jump 10' 2" Barden and Marko Mitchell are very similar but the slower Barden is projected 3 rounds earlier in the draft. Go figure.
He's also 3 inches taller and had a shotton of production at school. Mitchell had good production, but Barden was a man among boys there.
And to throw the ball I still say the guy I would draft is Chase Holbrook. No Sanchez or Freeman! Holbrook will make some coach look like a genius. Chase Holbrook has the potential to end up in the top 3 all-time in NCAA history for passing yards, passing touchdowns, passing attempts, and passing completions, despite only playing 3 seasons. Only twice has he passed for under 300 yards in his career. Against Idaho, Chase Holbrook passed for 342 yards, including a 96 yard touchdown on third down. I say use a 7th round pick and see what he can grasp. Yes he could be gotten as a FA but what is a 7th pick these days anyways.
I agree with Mr. E on this one, The competition and system Holbook played against in college definitely scares me. In a system like that, I'd rather take a guy who at least has a winning percentage as a starter. He's not an upgrade as a number 3 over Ainge either. He can't make a coach look like a genius if he can't win games. I do think it is really funny that he has a website called "HolbrookNation.Org", like there are a mass amount of Holbrook fans out there.
I really like Louis Murphy out of Florida, if he was there in the 3rd round i would take a shot on him.
Holbrook's college stats per season would be probowl numbers in the NFL. I don't care who he played or what type of offense, he is the most accurate college passer in the draft. He si Chad but with a better arm and at a cheaper price. On the team/schemne we will be playing this year we want a guy who won't male mistakes, Holbrook is the guy.
Our director of college scouting is a former WR. If he can't find late round gems at the position he knows the most about then show him the door. He already found Stuckey, lets wait and see if he can do that again.
The likelyhood of a rookie coming in and making an impact his first season is next to zero. If we are really not sold on our group being able to handle the load this season, you've got to go to the FA pool.
I like Barden too. I realize that he doesn't have the speed of the other guys, but I think it's been way too long since the Jets have had anyone with significant size at WR. I can't help but be intrigued by those 50 TD's too - that's impressive no matter where you play. That said, I think that the general idea of looking to address the WR position in the later rounds is definitely a smart one. Unless one of the top 2 or 3 guys happens to fall to us in the first, it's probably a better idea to wait being that there seems to be so much good value this year.
Freeman sucks ass and is over rated. No way he starts for any team in the next to years. Three at the earliest and he will still suck.. If a rookie QB can't start from day one, don't draft in the first round!
