Jets | J. Williams to visit Share: Sun, 05 Apr 2009 11:49:17 -0700 Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Western Illinois LB Jason Williams is scheduled to visit with the New York Jets.
One player who is moving up fast on some draft boards is Western Illinois Jason Williams. The 6′1″ 241 pounder (can you say “perfect ILB” size?) ran a 4.46 40 yard dash (can you say really fast?), which is when teams really started to take note, according to the Chicago Sun-Times who are blogging about all his visits, and his latest news, a Jets visit noted here. The Western Illinois linebacker is one of the hottest risers with just three weeks to go as he crisscrosses the country getting in 10 pre-draft visits. That is more than any other player we’ve heard of to this point as the visit season cranks up with teams whittling down their draft boards. Williams will travel or has already traveled to meet with Cleveland, Dallas, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Minnesota, New England, Seattle, Tampa Bay and Tennessee. Using the handy Air Miles chart on page 216 of the Bears media guide, that’s 13,332 flown miles. Teams want to give Williams a physical and get a better chance to know him. The DuSable graduate started getting traction when he performed well at the East-West Shrine Game and then turned heads at his pro day March 4 when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds with 14 teams in attendance. That was on a basketball-court surface though and there were some questions for a guy who is 6-1, 241 pounds. Some didn’t believe he was that fast. Try faster. Any of those questions were answered when he showed up March 12 at Northwestern’s pro day and ran again. This time, on a slow FieldTurf surface, he clocked in between 4.42 and 4.48 seconds according to scouts we polled at the event. The interest only grew. The blog post notes that the Eagles linebackers coach was one of the people who watched Williams workout. The Jets and Eagles have a history of poaching linebackers from each other. Marques Murrell and Chris Gocong come to mind. Williams is projected to go as high as the third round. http://www.thejetsblog.com/2009/04/05/jets-invite-western-illinois-linebacker-to-visit/
For the first time this draft season, the New York Jets today hosted a number of prospects at their Atlantic Health Training Facility in Florham Park, N.J. The visitors included Illinois CB Vontae Davis, whom many regard as the best cornerback prospect in the '09 class. Boston College linebacker Brian Toal, who starred at Don Bosco Prep in nearby Ramsey, was also among those in attendance. Corner Darius Butler (5'10", 183) played at nearby Connecticut and has impressed scouts with his natural ability. He was on hand today in addition to Iowa corner Bradley Fletcher and Notre Dame S David Bruton. If Butler is picked at 17 I wouldn't mind. He's skyrocketing up draft boards and I think he has the highest floor in comparison to Davis.
I really didn't think anybody had this kid on their radar. I have him in my mock draft, as a trade in third. Would be a great rotational player at DE/DT!!!! JMO
I kinda like Graham Gano, for the same reasons. I only watched 1 game, and he pinned the opposing team inside the 5 on 3 consecutive punts. Can anyone get that lucky?
NFL | Heavy interest in Maclin Share: Tue, 07 Apr 2009 05:48:38 -0700 Ed Thompson, of Scout.com, reports Missouri WR Jeremy Maclin has visited with the Cincinnati Bengals, and is scheduled for official visits with the Detroit Lions, New York Jets, St. Louis Rams and Cleveland Browns. Maclin is also scheduled for a private workout with the Oakland Raiders this week.
Agent: Kenny Britt to visit Jets and Giants April 7, 2009, 5:16 PM Charles LeClaire/Getty Images Jets and Giants will have 6-foot-4 Rutgers receiver Kenny Britt in for visits. His agent, Todd France, told me, Britt will meet with the Jets on Thursday and the Giants a week later. Britt is projected as a late first or a second round pick and is one of the only big receivers in the draft.
Jets Host Eight Draft Candidates Published: Tue, April 7, 2009 - 8:32pm ET By Eric Allen Allen is the senior managing editor of newyorkjets.com. He is in his seventh season with the Jets. File Under: Jeremy Maclin, Hakeem Nicks, draft prospects, Peria Jerr 04/07 — The Jets hosted eight college prospects today and the visitors included a pair of talented receivers: Missouri's Jeremy Maclin and North Carolina's Hakeem Nicks. There is a chance Maclin could be the first receiver taken in this month's draft. While Texas Tech's Michael Crabtree has been slowed by a foot injury, Maclin continues to gain momentum. He's a do-it-all type of player who totaled 2,833 all-purpose yards last year, catching 102 passes along the way. Jets WRs coach Henry Ellard actually led Maclin through some drills at his pro day last month. Nicks is an interesting player. At 6'1" and 212 pounds, he's a little bigger than Jerricho Cotchery but they share many of the same characteristics — great hands, courage to go over the middle and the ability to pile up yards after the catch. (You'll be able to read more about the wide receivers in our draft positional preview on Thursday). Mississippi's Peria Jerry headlined the list of defensive visitors. Jerry (6'2", 299) has a tremendous first step and can get in the opposition backfield in a hurry. Last season he collected 18 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and seven sacks. Rutgers DE Jamal Westerman, St. Paul CB Greg Toler, Wisconsin LB Jonathan Casillas, Clemson DT Darrell Scott and North Carolina TE Richard Quinn also spent some time at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center today.

Jets | Jenkins scheduled to visit Share: Wed, 08 Apr 2009 16:54:04 -0700 Albert Breer, of SportingNews.com, reports the New York Jets are scheduled to meet with Ohio State CB Malcolm Jenkins.
Might as well throw Miles Austin into this thread then... He schedule to visit the Jets this week - Thursday and Friday. If the FO decided to bring him in, it will affect our draft...we'd have to give up a 2nd for him.
Dorrell Scott is another interesting prospect. I hear that he's a potential 3-4 NT or DE.. He's somebody that we should look at in the 3rd round if he's there. He might even be worthy of a 2nd round pick at this point..
