It's been said here already, a vet QB would be very nice to have on the team. I'd like to see a three way battle for the starting QB position. Leftwich Clemens whoever we keep. I think it would bring out the best in the other guys if we bring in Leftwich. He isn't Joe Montana, but, I'm sure they will learn from him even if he isn't starting. If Kellen gets the job, he will have a decent vet QB right behind him all the way. 2 years $3mil too much?
Yeah, he's proven...proven he sucks. Garcia is the man we need, though not sure if he'd accept a veteran backup role.
WHAT!?.. ERIC AINGE STARTING 2010...!?!.. i'd be surprised if we was even on the roster in 2010.. what makes you think he would beat out clemens or ratliff... let alone anyone else the Jets might bring in..
This video is titled Byron Leftwich Steelers 2008 Highlights. Its a highlight reel and it still sucks. The TD at 1.07 could have been thrown by a cheerleader. Some of his highlights are just dump off passes.
He looks good under pressure, seems to have some zip on the ball, and can run a bit. What's the issue?
I wouldn't mind him as a backup. I was never a huge fan of the guy, but he could probably hold down the fort alright on a run-first team with a good D, which we will hopefully be next year. I'd be bummed if he was our starter.
It's Too Early To Sign a Vet QB... First of all, we need to do what the coaches have said: Put these three guys we have through their traces thoroughly and see what we have. There's plenty of time to sign up a veteran if we don't have what we need. Remember Rex thinks that he's already got all the veteran moxie he needs in Matt Kavanaugh who will pass it along to the young hosses in the stable.
Poor accuracy and really slow release; probably not a great decision-maker either. He'd make a good backup but I'd rather get someone like Garcia or just wing it with younger players who have some potential.
he's def got an arm on him, but his release is DREADFUL. It's so ugly to look at and it's really inefficient
The unnamed team wouldn't be us though because the Jets have said several times this offseason that they are not bringing in a vet, otherwise we would have went after Warner.
NO!!!! I'm all for bringing in a vet , not so much for actual playing time , but to help guide our young core of potentially good QBs. When it comes to mentoring and Vet QBs , I would take Garcia in a heartbeat. I have massive respect for him ever since the TO / 49ers fiasco. We do need a vet QB on the team for a number of reasons , playing should not be at the top of the list. Whoever comes in , must be prepared to back-up Clemens ( who I think will start , by default) and Ratliff. Should KC get hurt , I want to see what the other guy can do , not what a Vet is going to do. The QB position on our team is at the crossroads.....this season will determine where we go in draft 2010, and I'm sure our young QBs realise this already.
