They should check out West Point it has all they need in terms of facilities plus gates at the door to keep unwanted people on post. Yet its still close to the city.

Elmira has an Airport, and I think Cortland has a small one too.

Rex is old school. Being isolated away from home is an old school move. Let 'em have the camp in Spain for all I care as long as they win.

While I agree with that, this is yet one more blow to local NY/NJ Jets fans. Long Islanders first got screwed out of watching their team at Shea, then they got screwed out of watching TC at Hofstra even. This has been devastating to the NY crowd. Us guys in Jersey waited many years for TC to come here and now, even before the very first practice at our supposed "state-of-the-art" practice facility, we don't get to watch even our first TC here that we waited so long for.

If you're a season ticketholder, couple this TC nonsense with all the PSL bullshit and the fact that for many of us we've got one more year, period, in our seats and the whole thing is an attrocious, egregious nightmare.

Who the hell builds a "state-of-the-art" practice facility with 4 (count 'em... FOUR fields... including one indoor) that does not have bleacher seating or room on the sidelines for TC visitors and fans? No one thought of this? No one from the Jets organization has ever attended TC at Hofstra and seen all the families that go there to watch and encourage their team during training?

I mean, if the whole thing weren't such a fucking ridiculous nightmare it would be laughable. You build a practice facitlity with no fucking bleachers or room enough for spectators. What an absolute crock of bovine droppings.

The Jets have been a second rate organization for four decades now. Why does this latest bonehead thinking surprise anyone?

The Jets are foolish for actully thinking Cortland. My friends that are JETS fans that go to Cortland cant even see JETS game, becasue BILLS are the first option. I went to the University one weekend, and there were so many kids with Bills jersey hats etc. Cortland isnt a good fanbase for the JETS, I cant even believe woody, didnt think of putting stands, and dorms at there new complex? The only classy thing this organization can do is move back to Hofstra University for training camp, bring the JETS back to there real homewhich they had for years.

it really would make sense to go back to hofstra, at least somewhere that is in the jets footprint. although i can understand the people who say they are doing this because they think buffalo will move. i am not going to count on that one!

it really does suck for the jets, they have buffalo and new england both in close proximity to them in the northeast. fuckin giants have everything north of philly. and as far west as you could imagine.

As much of a hassle as it's been to travel to Hofstra from central Jersey, I'd welcome it back in a minute now. But I don't ever see this happening.

Mangini had touched on the possibility of doing some practices at Hofstra for old-time's sake, even after the completion of the practice facitlity in Florham Park. But I see the chances at slim to none now with Ryan here. He's going in the other direction, seemeingly preferring as much seclusion as possible.

I can understand a new coach wanting some "quiet time" with his new team, but that could all have been worked out easily at the new facility - make only 25% of your practices open to the public. Done deal.

But no, now it surfaces that there are no accomodations to hold practices there. The state gives the Jets 20+ acres of virgin wooded land upon which to build a state-of-the-art practice facility and nobody thinks to design it with dorms and spectator areas.

    Absolutely freaking brilliant.

    JERRY MCCREA/THE STAR LEDGER

On his way to work each day, Joseph Cecala drives past the Jets' gleaming new practice facility in Florham Park, hoping to catch a glimpse of a player or two. He hasn't had much luck. And that's not likely to change if his favorite NFL team -- as expected -- moves its summer training camp to upstate New York.

New coach Rex Ryan, an old-school guy who is trying to break a 40-year Super Bowl jinx, wants his players warehoused in dorms, with curfews and strict supervision, and there is no housing at the training complex in Florham Park. Rather than allow players to sleep in a nearby hotel, the Jets are looking at colleges in Ithaca and Cortland.

Like thousands of other Jets fans in North Jersey and the surrounding areas, Cecala and his son, Joseph Jr., who live in Morris Plains, would have spent a few summer afternoons watching the Jets work out in Florham Park. But now . . .

"Tell 'em to move back to Long Island," Cecala says. "Maybe I'll become an Eagles fan. Training camp will be closer."

First, the Jets yanked the team from the heart of its Long Island fan base at Hofstra University and moved it to North Jersey. Then, they socked their long-suffering fans with personal seat licenses at the new stadium. Now, they'll make those same fans drive four hours to training camp, the only time during the season when they can watch practices.

Florham Park mayor Scott Eveland shrugs at the summer abandonment. As a former high school football coach, he says "it's about wins and losses, not our feelings." Eveland forgets he is now the "coach" of Florham Park. He should be a voice for the fans and businesses in his town, not a mouthpiece for the Jets.

Somebody should be looking out for Jets fans. The Jets sure aren't.

"They haven't won a Super Bowl since 1969," Cecala says, "but they keep dumping on their fans."

It's a wonder they have any left.

Ryan is already a buffoon. So I guess this is where all the PSL money goes down the drain. What a total waste! If the Jets have this much money to burn, it shows what a ripoff the whole PSL thing is. Typical A-hole Jets move. Use the Florham Park facility now and STFU!!!

Our local Assemblywoman has asked the Jets to look at Utica College for the summer.

Destito wants Jets to train at Utica College

UTICA ? Following a meeting Friday with Utica College President Dr. Todd Hutton and representatives of the college?s athletic programs, Assemblywoman RoAnn M. Destito, D-Rome, today wrote to New York Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan asking him to consider Utica College as the site for its summer training facility.

?The New York Jets are actively scouting for a new site for part, or all of their summer training camp,? Destito said. ?Recently, the Jets organization scouted several upstate colleges, and I have written to their head coach asking his staff to visit Utica College.?

Recent media reports say scouts for the Jets have already toured Cornell University in Ithaca, SUNY Cortland in Cortland, and Ithaca College. The current Jets training facility is in Florham Park, New Jersey.

This is an absolute joke. Farileigh Dickenson college is a minute drive from this training camp. Why not have the players stay there of one of the other colleges in the area. That, and Drew University are extremely close. Also, it can't be that hard to bring in some frickin portable stands for the summer. They could have those set up in a day. This is pissing me off because it is the one time I was going to be able to see the Jets without emptying my already depleted wallet. This whole thing is a joke.

How about this for irony. The two main problems they are talking about is that Rex Ryan wants isolation for his players and that there aren't enough stands at the training facility in Florham Park. Aren't those kind of conflicting goals. On one hand you want isolation and to "get away" and on the other hand you are saying it can't be held there because there aren't enough stands for people to come and watch. The Jets should be ashamed and the players should be pissed that they have a brand new facility that can't even be used. What a joke.

What is with the "isolation"? Florham Park is not the news and entertainment mecca of the tri-sate area. Does Rex envision the team sitting around a campfire every evening singing "Kumbaya"?

    WTF?

You mean there were Bills fans in Upstate Ny? That's almost as astonishing as running into Cowboys fans in Texas.

I love how people are bitching about them not using Florham Park like this totally negates the fact that they built it. Why are you acting like you have a dime invested?
