Sleeper Tight End Nalbone Drawing NFL Interest
Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 28, 2009, 1:04 p.m.
Small-school tight end John Nalbone is looking to follow in the footsteps of former Monmouth teammate and current Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin into the NFL.

Nalbone will visit the New York Jets on April 9. He has also scheduled a private workout with the Philadelphia Eagles and is in the process of setting up more visits and workouts.

At 6′4″, 256 pounds, Nalbone has intriguing 4.57 speed in the 40-yard dash and caught 101 career passes for 1,273 yards and nine touchdowns. He has bench pressed 225 pounds 22 times and registered a 33-inch vertical leap with a 9-10 broad jump.

“I think that he has all of the measurables NFL teams are looking for in terms of height, weight, speed, movement and athleticism,” Monmouth coach Kevin Callahan told the Asbury Park Press. “They look at him as a guy with a tremendous amount of upside.

“You look back three years ago with Miles Austin, that’s what they saw. A big, physical receiver with great hands, who they thought still had room for development, so they’re similar in that regard.”

As a senior, Nalbone caught 42 passes for 491 yards and five touchdowns.

Succop has a boot...if he can get his head right, he'll be an all-pro kicker. He can also punt.

    Raji On The Move
Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 29, 2009, 11:28 a.m.

Massive Boston College defensive tackle B.J. Raji, one of the top defensive linemen in the draft and a projected high first-round draft pick, has several upcoming visits, according to a league source.

The New Jersey native will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos, and San Francisco 49ers prior to a local visit with the New York Jets. He has a subsequent visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 6′2″, 337-pound defensive tackle ran the 40-yard dash in 5.12 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine, also registering a 32-inch vertical leap and bench pressing 225 pounds 33 times.

Raji missed the entire 2007 season due to academic reasons, but had a banner season last year.

Wow imagine the versatility we'd have on our front line if we moved up for Raji (provided he slips out of the top 10 somehow)??

Think getting him in the 5th round is realistic? I'm all for drafting a kicker this year.

If we go for Jones' replacement in this draft, Brown is on my short list....I really think he's going to be Curtis Martin 2.0.

    Stafford To Visit Jets
    April 1, 2009

With all the attention focused on soon-to-be-former Broncos QB Jay Cutler, the Jets still are investigating the crop of college quarterbacks. In fact, Georgia's Matthew Stafford, widely regarded as the top-rated quarterback in the draft, is visiting the Jets in mid-April, he told Sirius NFL radio today.

Speaking to Peter King, Bob Papa and Randy Cross earlier today, Stafford said, "Well, I've already visited Detroit. I did that earlier on. And now, I actually just got a call this morning. I think I'm going to go see the Jets at some point in mid-April."

    Interesting, very interesting.

Stafford is projected as the likely No. 1 overall pick by the Lions, but that isn't etched in stone. Why are the Jets suddenly into Stafford? Are they losing hope in the Cutler chase? I doubt that; too early for that to happen. Perhaps the Jets' interest is piqued because of Stafford's personal workout this week for the Lions, which, by all accounts, was sensational.

The Jets already have met with the other top quarterbacks, USC's Mark Sanchez and Kansas State's Josh Freeman. Chances are, they're getting their ducks in a row ... just in case.

The Jets also are bringing in an interesting, fast-rising CB prospect, Gregory Toler of St. Paul's College in Virginia. He could be this year's Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, a small-school wonder who went in the first round last year to the Cardinals. Toler is considered a second- or third-round prospect.

    end

Could Stafford be this year's Aaron Rodgers? If that's the case and he's there at 17, I think the Jets HAVE to take him. Sanchez doesn't impress me all that much as a prospect but I think Stafford is gonna be a really good QB in the NFL

As a Seton Hall student I'd like to throw in Paul Gause's name as a player we worked out at Corner and safety. I'm actually serious.

    Thanks!.

It's the first year I decided to do this thread, it makes sense, so you don't have to search the entire site.

Glad you enjoy it. We can look back at this thread the weekend of the draft and see if we draft any of these players.

    NICK'S ALERT

    Nicks Making More Trips
Posted by Mike Florio on April 1, 2009, 12:12 p.m.
North Carolina receiver Hakeem Nicks, who apparently spent a couple of weeks on the Andre Smith diet after the Scouting Combine, is getting opportunities to show several teams whether or not he’s sporting a spectacular set of man boobs.

Per a league source, Nicks’ pre-draft visits include the Ravens, Titans, Jets, Vikings, and Rams. (Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean first reported earlier today that Nicks will take a trip to Nashville.)

Nicks has worked out for the Bears, Dolphins, and Colts.

We’re told that Nicks weighed 216 pounds at his most recent workout, down from 226 at his Pro Day.

I went to one of Boltus' games. He looked solid as hell. If he goes undrafted, pick him up, I think he can be better than Ainge.

Good, I hope this kid learned his lesson from the past few weeks and impresses some teams. I still think he's going to be a good one in this league, and I'm still not against drafting him at 17.

Oregon State Cornerback On the Move
Posted by Aaron Wilson on April 5, 2009, 12:40 p.m.
Oregon State cornerback Brandon Hughes said he has conducted private workouts for the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens, according to an interview with the Pantagraph (Ill.).

“I’m livin’ the dream, baby,” Hughes said. “And when I’m not livin’ the dream, I’m thinking about the dream. The Combine was a real stepping stone. Since then, things have been amazing.

“I’m hoping I can be an inspiration. I had trouble getting a school. I had grade issues. It’s not where you start. It’s how you put things in perspective and how you finish.”

During testing for NFL teams, Hughes has registered a 37-inch vertical leap and a 10-8 broad jump with a 4.40 time in the 40-yard dash.

A four-year starter at Oregon State and a second-team All-Pac 10 selection, Hughes has been projected to be drafted between the fourth and fifth rounds.

Hughes was invited to the East-West Shrine Game.
