Hey...whats the matter with you...10 guys is one more than 9. Two more than 8...what would you rather have? 10 guys or 8? Huh? Cat got your tongue on that one right? Once I played on a team that had only 5 guys show up...guess what...we played with 5...why? because thats how many guys were on the field...could have been 6 but I just remember using one hand to count how many guys we had. Yeah we lost the game...somethin like 56-0...but we were there..we showed up...we played to win the game... Afterwards, we drank some kool aid....chased some chick-ens..and took the bus home..together..as a team..with a capital E...I mean T. Everyone is so into the dang numbers...How many timeouts you have Herm...how many players are on the field Herm...come on...give me a break...if we were winning 42-0...wouldnt make no damn difference how many timeouts we had then...right? Yeah...right. Once played some football on a black top when I was a kid...guess what...we didnt have timeouts then...the only timeouts is when little Johnny said he was going to pee on himself if we didnt stop the game...guess what...we stopped...Johnny pee'd...and we didnt use a timeout. We also moved Johnny from center to tackle because the QB didnt want Johnny snapping the ball anymore...claims he came out of the woods "too fast". Where was I going with this...oh..timeouts...overrated in my book. Whats wrong with the two minute warning...gets no respect if you ask me. Ever watch the clock..and it comes up to 2 minutes to go....guess what...clock stops...well..unless the game is goin on...but when the whistle blows...the clock stops. Stops on incomplete passes too. Doesnt stop when you take a knee though...learned that the hard way in Pittsburgh...but you learn...thats what its all about...learn from your mistakes....not that that was a mistake...just thought the clock would stop. (sorry....deep down I miss him.)
I'm with you on the Herm-as-Socrates aspect. Some of it was great, great stuff. The old Tampa Bay uniforms: "It was a condition." HAH.
you even posted the third one to admit at being a post whore... You havent lived until you double post...good one.
The grass is FAR greener on the other side of the fence. The thing that's most comical (as you've explained) is seeing the KC fans during the "calm before the storm". I very may well watch every KC game this year just for a good laugh.
Excellent point...not a KC FAN....but without a doubt....a real KC observer. AHHHH...thats bull crap too....I want KC to fold like a cheap tent...not because I want to see Herm fail...but lets face it...which press conference would be more fun. 1. Yeah...we are playing good football right now...sure its September..but remember...birds fly south in September...they lay their eggs in the spring. (huh?) or... 2. Yeah...we are struggling right now...but thats alright...thats alright...aint nobody ever sent me an invitation to a playoff game in September...they do that in December...I mean January...last time I looked they werent printing playoff tickets for nobody yet. Didnt check my mailbox...didnt have to.
 When you post it's as if you're possessed by Herm himself. Dead on with the virtual impersonation. I can't say I'm going to "root against" KC (unless a Chiefs loss benefits the Jets in some way). Actually, come to think of it, I most likely will root against them. Just because I hate that douche so much. I know (as I assume any sane individual would) that any success they have will be soley based on team talent. Of course there IS always the possibility that Herm has finally seen the light. Maybe at some point this season we'll see him on the sideline studying this.....
1. I was excited and I knew these 2 moves are gonna bring us a championship one day. They put us in the right direction. 2. I want the Jets to draft Matt Leinart if hes there. They need a franchise QB and Pennigton might be done unless he really steps it up while being pushed by Ramsey and if we bring in Leinart. Matt Leinart is a great QB and would be great for us. 3. The team stays healthy plays with heart and determination and do what their supposed to do and executes. 4. if they dont make they playoffs once in 4 years and they have shitty records then they have to go but I dont think that gonna be the case.
i don't know much about, mangini, but you can't argue with his pedigree. as far as, tannenbaum, i think anyone is better then, bradway.as far as the draft, i think defense wins championships. go for williams, or hawk. the season will be a success, if we see steady improvement, week to week. it won't necessarily be reflected in our record, but in individual, player progress. we need to give the new regime, in my opinion, at least 3yrs, but we must see steady inprovement, along the way
(1) What was your first impression of the hiring of Eric Mangini as head coach, and the promotion of Mike Tannenbaum as General Manager? I liked the idea! Seemed like a fresh start and I was so tired of the way things had been going for the Jets over the past, what... umpteen years. Yeah, we made a few playoffs, but got no where in the end. So, a new start with unrecycled (a word? don't know, but I'll use it) manager and G.M., good! (2) Who are you hoping the Jets pick in the 2006 Draft? Whoever will help the team win, not just now, but long term and consistently. I don't claim to be knowledgeable when it comes to football talent, so I think I will leave that up to Mangini and Tannenbaum... but, I think hold off on a QB, go defense in my mind, Hawk, Ngata and get a RB later, Williams, Maroney or Addai later still. (3) The 2006 season will be a success if. . . . If we improve our win-loss record and look consistant doing it. I just want to see an effort in every game and a direction. All the coaches and players moving in the same direction. (4) How long do you give the Mangini/Tannenbaum administration to succeed? I personally think that if we, as fans, start putting a time limit on success or failure we have lost before we begin. I think we will all know when it's time, but as of right now, give them free rein... what they have done so far with the FA moves shows me they know what they are doing. The draft will determine much more... then see how they put it all together on the playing field, but no preset time frame. Just my novice like opinions and I hope to enjoy this message board through the entire process.
Welcome aboard...very good post. Especially like your number 2 response...although many will disagree..and they have solid points too. Once again...no one and outs....keep posting!!
Like jlee499's response to number two...Im with you about defense wins championships. Very good post..and keep posting!!
(1) What was your first impression of the hiring of Eric Mangini as head coach, and the promotion of Mike Tannenbaum as General Manager? I had mixed emotions. I guess there's two schools of thought. Peter King of Sports Illustrated said that it's better to get a good coach before he's ready than to not get a good coach at all. But that can also backfire. Belichek was deemed a good coach, but when he started with the Browns he wasn't ready, and look how that turned out. I just hope that Mangini isn't in the same position, where he learns the job with the Jets before becoming a great coach somewhere else. (2) Who are you hoping the Jets pick in the 2006 Draft? I'm really hoping that somehow the Jets wind up with Mario Williams with their first pick (second best player in the draft). I'd like Manny Lawson to be there at 29 (we need that OLB pass rusher if we run the 3-4), and hopefully Joseph Addai is there at 35 (good all around back to take over for Martin). As far as the third round goes, I hear a lot of people say they'd like Kellen Clemens. The thing with Clemons is that he doesn't have good arm strength, and that's everybody's knock on Chad. I'd much rather have Brodie Croyle, despite his injury history. (3) The 2006 season will be a success if. . . . ...we get 6-8 wins and our rookies play well. With three picks in the top 35 and five on Day One, this is a big draft for the Jets. Manigini and Tannenbaum have a chance to immediately make their mark on this team, and if they hit on all three of those picks, that would be huge. (4) How long do you give the Mangini/Tannenbaum administration to succeed? I guess that depends on how one defines "succeed." I give them until their third season to get in the playoffs. I'd like to see it done sooner obviously, but 2008 is a reasonable goal. I would expect them to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders in the following few years.
Great post Jay. I understand what you are saying about Belichek and his tenure with the Browns but he also got caught in the middle of the whole Modell vs Cleveland situation and when they moved, Modell just wanted a fresh coaching team in Baltimore. But he did have to pay his dues with the Browns. Welcome to TGG!
Thanks. That's a good point about Belichek. He was in a worse situation in Cleveland than the one that Mangini is walking into with the Jets. And although there is always pressure to win in New York, I think he'll be given a free pass this year as long as the team shows progress.
Was Belichick really in a worse situation with the Browns than Mangini is today? I have spotty recollection of most other teams that far back as I was in school and mostly just followed Jet ball. I know he only had one decent season out of the 5 he spent there, and his last two were really in the toilet. But other than the big switch from Kosar to Testaverde that he took grief for, I don't recall them having as many holes. It is interesting though, because if you look at the years prior to Belichick coming (to the Browns), the team had some very consistent success, yet managed to choke its way out of the big game at least a couple times under Marty S (I believe that was right at least). I can only hope history is not repeating itself for us as it unfolded in Cleveland. Which would mean 5 years of stagnant progress from Mangini only to be sold off to some other market. :breakdance: Welcome to the board all!
