Titans are built around a scrambling qb. ita been succesful for years. if they pass on leinart for young it wouldnt be that shocking.
I'd like to see if you can turn the rights to Leinart into multiple draft picks and then draft either Vernon Davis, Broderick Bunkley, or Winston Justice (depends on how far down they go). If the trade down option isn't there, Leinart over D'Brick.
Leinart may not make Chow a winner either but, if you go get a guy to run your offense, and the QB he wants is rated as high as Leinart is, you give the man what he wants...or you're an idiot. I don't think their GM is an idiot. On the other hand, if Chow prefers Vince, he'll get him.
Yes, if they think Young is special. It's not a matter of ignoring Chow's advice on Leinart.. it's a matter of thinking Young is better, and that's what the scouts get paid to try to determine. If Leinart is available, there is only 1 guy I would take above him, and he'll be gone #1.. Reggie Bush
Agree, trade down, there will be considerable desire by someone to get this spot, forget Leinart...drop and take Hawk or Brick!!!!!
Easily if those guys are off the board, I would take Hawk, or trade the pick. I don't like any of the QBs available at the top, and I would rather risk things with Croyle, and the possibility of Quinn next year.
Leinart is the pick,no-brainer IMO. Franchise QB is far more valuable than a left tackle, linebacker, tight end(gag),whatever. Getting a QB who would've been the lock #1 pick last year at #4 this year is a tremendous value. Stability at QB is a top indicator ,if not THE top,of a winning franchise.Instability or constant questions at QB are the mark of a losing/mediocre franchise. Leinart is polished and he's a proven winner.Quality offensive linemen are always available later in the draft. If Leinart drops to 4 and we don't get him,I have to admit I'll be incredibly bummed. You don't pass on blue-chip franchise QB prospects, especially when you have major question marks at the position. JMO
Wouldn't you guess that, after working with him throughout his college career, Norman Chow knows Leinart better than any scout? Don't you suppose that Leinart knows Chow's offense better than Vince Young? Could Vince Young even run a disciplined offense like USC's? If the Titans were to pass on Leinart over Chow's advice and wishes, we could fairly conclude that the GM has shit for brains...which isn't likely. In the unlikely event that the Titans pass on Leinart at the three pick, it will be because Chow prefers Vince Young over the QB that he coached in college...which ought to make any team picking later very wary of selecting Leinart.
According to NFL insiders (Adam Schefter,John Clayton,Chris Mortensen), Floyd Reese, the Titans' GM,prefers Vince Young because of his athletic,play-making ability and high potential. Fisher and Chow prefer Leinart, but Reese,as GM,has final say. Supposedly,Reese is looking at who he thinks is going to be better in 2 or 3 years, not necessarily 2006. It wouldn't be the first time a GM and his head coacj had personnel disagreements. If a GM picks one player against the wishes of one of the teams' coordinators, that doesn't automatically make the GM stupid. It means he's going with his own interpretation of tape and scouting information,as well as his gut. That's why Reese is the GM and Chow isn't. Right now,I think it's 60/40 that the Titans' go with Young,so I wouldn't be shocked if they decide to take Leinart instead.
Reese hires Norman Chow who ran a disciplined pro-style offense at USC. Fisher and Chow want Leinart. Chow knows Leinart. Leinart knows Chow's system. But you think that Reese goes with his gut feeling and gives Chow Vince Young to run his disciplined offense? Isn't it more likely that Reese is deliberately spreading misinformation hoping that it will influence teams not to move into the two spot to pick Leinart?
