I think scott will live up to the contract. In his last interview he said he will do everything possible to help Ryan succeed. It wasn't one of those typical phrases a player says during and interview - you can just tell that Scott will take a bullet for his coach. I know from experience how that feels, and you do play better. i think it'll be another great move by Tanny. The Redskins wish they were the jets when it comes to signing FAs.

Definitely. I see Jones' purpose as being the workhorse and not getting Leon killed over 16 games, but Leon needs the ball much more than he has been getting it on offense.

Leon Washington isn't the best HB currently on our roster. He is the best offensive skill player currently on our roster. Pay the man his $6 million/year.

Once again, you don't address the original argument. Turner didn't get his contract because he was playing behind Tomlinson. Teams pay players not based on what they've done, but what they feel they will do for the team in the future. Players either earn their contract through performance that a team feels will continue, or through flashes of brilliance that hint at untapped potential. Turner got his contract for the latter. You argued Leon didn't deserve a contract based on the former. I pointed out the incongruity, and yet you ignored it.

Leon is identical in size to Barry Sanders. He retired at 30 with PLENTY left in the tank and much heavier usage than Leon has seen thus far. Maurice Jones-Drew is an inch shorter and just became the Jags sole feature back. Frank Gore's got a whopping inch and 15 extra pounds. Certainly more weight, but again, he gets significantly more usage and has a style that leads to more contact. And of course there's Warrick Dunn. Dude's tiny, and he's missed what, 10 games his whole career? Assuming that Leon's going to inevitably get hurt over the course of a season is ridiculous, particularly given the fact that so few running backs take all of their team's carries anymore, and one who does is mentioned above.

your bite makes me think you take things personal when someone disagrees with you.
like most all jets fans, when leon touched the ball i was on the edge of my seat ready to spring up, excited knowing he could take it to the house at any moment. low expectations? not

i just think the way he was used was about as perfect as one could hope. there were times i wanted to see him touch the ball more, but looking back now, i think we would have raised the risk of injury too high to have made it worth while.. he's a small back and i just think it's in the jets best interest to keep him fresh so he will hold up.
most ijuries seem to happen when guys start to get tired and it makes them more susceptable to injury!!!

I agree, of course. This guy just seems to think that everyone who signs a big contract is living on borrowed time. He's waiting for the other shoe to drop so he can say "I TOLD YOU WE OVERPAID!!!!!"

I'm not taking it personally at all, I just think your arguments on this issue are ridiculous. No hard feelings, and I hope you can separate my attacks on your argument from attacks on you. I only attack people personally in other forums. I'm sure people think I make ridiculous arguments here as well. I have no idea how you feel about other ones.

You keep bringing up injury as though it's a foregone conclusion for Leon. That's why I said you seem to be putting too much stock in an inevitable low performance to justify his lack of worth. I only brought up the uncapped year because you were concerned about this phantom injury's effect on the salary cap.

that is correct!!! i don't think he was worth 8 mill a season. he not even in the top 5 line backers in the league.. he good, but not 8 mill good..

and the pats over paid for their 8 mill a season line backer also.. bb isn't always right. more times than not, but not always...

Adalius wasn't one of the guys I was talking about. Randy Moss, Tom Brady, and Richard Seymour all hit the Pats cap for more than 9 million last season. In Moss's case, he was picked up based on his potential, not what he did in Oakland. Granted, he was one of if not the best WR in the league while in Minnesota, but NE was still taking a leap of faith.

That's what we've done with Scott. What makes me feel better about that signing is that his former DC and LB coach were the ones pushing for him. Who better to envision his potential on this team? If they feel he'll play up to that contract, I have to agree at this point. If we don't have faith in Scott, we essentially don't have faith in our HC. He wants him as the centerpiece of his defense.

In all honesty, I wouldn't be at all shocked to find out that Tanny is quietly shopping Leon around the league behind the scenes. I have nothing to base this on, just my own personal speculation.

Think about it. Leon is textbook trade bait. We could then subsequently take Moreno with #17 and a WR with the other first rounder we would be sure to get for him - the best of both worlds. We would just have to be certain to deal him somewhere far, far away from our division.

I realize at first it seems asinine to part with Leon right now, but just entertain the thought.

I seriously doubt it. Very few players are deemed worthy of a 1st rounder, and no receiver in the draft is equal value for what we'd be losing, nor is Moreno an adequate sub. For TJ? Absolutely. For Leon? No.

You think Leon is going to garner a 1st round pick?

I don't think a 1st rounder is completely out of the question for Leon. I used WR off the top of my head, insert the position of need of your choice.

christ lol, i can see you really are taking it personal. this is a football forum, go have a drink and calm yourself.

i did not ignore the point, just got caught up with the others. your not making a much sense in the first paragraph.
my point about turner was he's much bigger and had shown flashes of being a top notch back given the playing time he was not getting because of who the featured back was on that team. leon would not have gotten much of a chance either.
as for leon, he's not built with the body of a turner and therefore isn't even in the same category. turner is built to be a featured back, leon is not! hopefully, i've clarified myself enough on that point now... i think maybe you should go back and reread. i thought that was clearly one of the points i had made. THEY WERE NOT THE SAME TYPE BACKS!!!!!!!!

your points about the other backs is bull. those backs are much thicker than leon with the exception of dunn. you aren't actually comparing leon's legs with that of sanders,jones-drew or core i hope. leon is not built that way, but then again, you were the one trying to compare leon to turner, durability wise..lol

as for dunn, he's a rarity. leon has to play for a few more years to compare with dunn's durability...

    Who knows? He could.

That's why I wouldn't be surprised if Tanny did a little courting to test the market, just for shits and giggles.

Some other team would have to be totally ENAMORED with Leon..to cough up a 1st round pick for him.

    I don't see that happening.

Huh? Why would I take any of this personally? Perhaps it's you who needs that drink.

The other backs are much thicker than Leon? Sanders was literally identical in size. Jones-Drew is thicker because he's an inch smaller. Their builds aren't as different as you seem to think.

The point is, you would have written off Dunn as hopelessly destined for injury as well. You have no way of knowing how Leon will hold up. So, the only place we should differ is on whether he's shown the ability to be a special back. You say no, the majority of posters here say yes. That's really the only point you can argue with any factual basis.

The point about Turner being bigger and having more potential as a different type of back was not mentioned in your original post. Hence why I disagreed. You based it on Leon not having carried for 1200 yards. Well, Turner hadn't either. Obviously Turner's a larger back and a different kind of runner.

The definition of a feature back is changing and becoming more flexible. Brandon Jacobs is a feature back while receiving 40% of his team's carries. He averaged fewer than 20 carries a game. Leon can't take that many carries? With 15 - 20 carries a game, he seriously changes the game. I see what Leon's saying about wanting to change the game, and I agree that he has the ability to do so. I'd like to see him get the contract that gives him a chance to do so. You'd apparently prefer to see it happen for a different team.
