Can someone do an IP adress ban on this clown? He's clearly a vet around here that just made a BS name like this to ruin threads Im calling for an IP ban here
You ever heard of Northeast high school in St.Petersburg? Thats where my nephews dad went around 1992-1994, he's actually #4 on the alltime rushing record for most yards in the county of pinellas... He could have played for ANY college in the nation, instead he chose a life of crime which is a shame but to make a long story short, my younger nephew is only 14, he's 5'7 and weighs 140....Built just like his father and runs the rock better than any 14 year old I've seen in years... Thats where he's going next year, if you ever come down to FLorida, let me know in advance, maybe you can give my neph a little work out because the more coaches working with a kid...the better And yeah your right...The only state that can compete with FL in HS football is Georgia and maybe Texas
Getting past the thread hijacking, it gets me excited hearing Ryan talk like this...hes the man. My only concern is that Ryan has been a coordinator or assistant his entire career. In the past when he has run into guys like VG (suggs, Ngata) he has been able to focus much of his attention on that player and micromanage to make sure that player is doing what hes supposed to be. As head coach his responsibilities are much different. He can't spend a hell of a lot of time on VG while the offense suffers. The transition for a guy who has spent as much time as he has as an assistant is huge. Thats the only thing that concerns me about Ryan
I get your point, but with a player like VG...Believe me you, Rex Ryan will MAKE time for Gholston, this guy can be a huge peice to our 3-4 Defense
Yep, I've heard of it. There are some damn good teams in Pinellas County! Although, I think Plant and Armwood have a lock on talent if you know what I mean. As for the crime thing, that's a shame. Unfortunately, it happens far too often. I hate prying into player's lives, but sometimes you just HAVE to. I've only been coaching 5 years, and I've already seen some talent go down the tubes. Biggest problem is that some kids can't handle the sport on the next level. Some of the fun gets taken out of it, and it becomes more like work. I could go on forever, but I don't wanna run off topic. Don't wanna get the mods all upset. If you ever want some advice for him, just shoot me a message on here.
I agree 100% with your post. A problem I saw with Mangini coaching Gholston was that Mangini tried to play mindgames with Gholston and trick him into playing better, like pulling him off the squad and going public about how bad he had been in practice and then next week praise him in public for being outstand in practice. It might work with simpleminded players, but with a smart and thinking persons like Gholston (at least I have gotten the impresson of him having more brains than your average football player) it can make him confused and insecure.
I hate to be a negative nancy, but what exactly do you expect him to say: "This guy really kind of sucks, I don't have a lot of expectations for him and neither should you, my new employer really jumped the shark when it picked this loser."
I've said it a million times. You teach an athlete how to be a football player, you can't teach a football player how to be an athlete. VG IS an athlete. He can be fixed. Rocky, where in PA are you?
He didn't need to be optimistic, Mangini never was He could have said "he has talent but it's gonna take a lot of work, hopefully it works out"
While true, I do not think Ryan will settle for anyone on the team giving a hohum effort. If VG has a nother year here like last year he will be shown the door or traded. Either way we come out the loser. I dom't even think he would fetch a 4th round pick if we had to trade him next year assuminig he has a lack-luster season again.
there are two types of systems to put a 34 OLB into - the read and react, coverage based OLB who needs to be a true student of the game and the up the field, sack the QB type of OLB who needs to be a strong fuck to beat the Tackle 1 on 1 and apply pressure. Guess which one Gholston is suited for, and guess which one he played in last year. Hint: its not the same answer.
VG has to look in the mirror, but that being said, I don't think he took to Mangini's management style. Mangini seemed to be passive aggresive and wanted to knock guys down and watch them pick themselves up. This kid isn't cut that way.
If he doesn't show a flash of potential this season (i.e another sackless year and/or getting deactivated again) then we have a problem. Until then, I think everybody needs to reserve judgement
I'm in the Pocono area. I agree 100% with you. Not everyone is born to be a football player, but they can be made football players. Sadly, some people are born to be football players, and they don't have the size or INTELLIGENCE to play at the next level. Fortunately, Gholston has size, intelligence (he seems pretty intellectual), and athleticism. Now he just needs to learn how to play the position. Consequently, that's why they drafted him, too bad they weren't the right staff for the job.
