The NFL Network reports Sports Illustrated's Peter King said during an interview that the NFL will expand to 17 or 18 games in 2011.

I love the idea of more NFL games to watch but I wonder if this won't limit the careers of players even more. They will need to increase rosters, salaries, salary cap, and hopefully medical procedures. If they made steroids legal it might help.

Hate it. Absolutely hate this idea unless they shorten the pre-season.

I heard on NFLTA that they may reduce the amount of preseason games in lieu of increasing the regular season. eg adding two games would reduce the preseason by 2 games.

So...is there really a big difference?...i don't believe so, IMO.

Thats what had been mentioned before, was having 2 preseason games and 18 reg. season games. I would be fine with that.

I like the idea because it rids 2 preseason games. There's simply too many especially when you lose a key player to injury in a pointless game, like the Giants did with Osi or we did with Chad back in 2003.

I'm all for this. The 4th game should go no matter what... such a pointless game. I can see the season becoming 17 games rather then 18. I would prefer 18, though.

i hate this move....... it will change how we view career stats etc..

i am very into career stats and hate the idea of people who are now going to break records because they have an extra few games a year.

just keep it the way it is.....this is retarded

Considering how much the starters play in preseason, yes it is. I assume one of the remaining preseason games will remain the one where starters play into the 3rd quarter so you're pretty much adding 2 full games for the starters.

This is a bad idea if you ask me... Instead of 9-10 wins being a lock for the playoffs (Most of the time), it's going to take 10-11 wins now... We may even see alot of 11 win teams actually MISS the playoffs, I guess the Pats of last year just started a trent around the NFL.

Also...What about records? If someone breaks the alltime record for TD's in a season...Is it because they added one extra game?

This is just BS in my eyes...Why change an already exciting sport?

Don't know how well this is going to work. Players coming out of college can't even handle a full 16 right away! Now your asking vets and rooks to handle 17-18 games+playoffs? The first couple of years will be tough for sure.

As a fan, I'd like to see more football. At the same time, I'd like to see more QUALITY football, and I don't think this will equate to that.

I wish they would just cut preseason down to 2 games.

I don't like it. Not only will teams be more beat up come playoff time, but records will be skewed.

Exactly...We may also see less and less players have careers of 10+ years

Your starters aren't playing most of those preseason games though.

Guarantee that every player in the NFL just got upset over this. Players bodies break down over the course of a season, especially the lineman. To make the season even longer is going to have a lot of players unable to participate in the playoffs.
