good call nesquick, definitely an impressive call. I think St.Louis is going to take Curry or Eugene Monroe. I've read St. Louis was really impressed with Eugene Monroe, and absolutely loves him. There offensive line is garbage, but so is there defense. Either one would better suit them. I don't think they will draft Stafford, just my opinion.
So, I guess nobody bothered to read the article that statjeff posted that makes the premise of this thread bogus? http://blogs.usatoday.com/thehuddle/2009/03/lions-already-n.html
they could flip the #20 overall for Cutler, it would take more of course, but you are right I seriously doubt a #1 overall selection gets traded again (ok well at least until there is a rookie cap put in place) Truly detroit can out offer us for any package that Denver wants. Detroit picks higher in every round than us (except for the #20) plus its almost a given they will be picking prior to us next year, so any delayed picks would likely be higher than any delayed picks we could offer.
Is Jason Smith a WR? This doesn't make sense otherwise. The Lions always blow their high 1 picks on WR's. It's like a curse or something.
Well, they drafted a wideout in the 1st round in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2007. The ones they drafted in 2003 and 2005 were busts. The one they drafted in 2007 is probably going to be great. The one they drafted in 2004 played fairly well for them and was traded for the 20th pick in the 2009 draft. They did not blow all their recent #1s on wideouts and of the wideouts they did draft, they made two good picks and two bad picks. The Lions-are-stupid-because-they-draft-wide receivers-in-the-1st-round-every-year is a lame and tired joke.
to add to that, the idiot that is Matt Millen is no longer with the organization, so the joke really is over now anyways...
They certaonly can make a better offer. I guess the question then would become whether or not Cutler wants to play for them..or for any specific team. He still has 3 years left on his contract so a team might be willing to take a chance anyway but I would think that any team offering a lot to get him would also want to sign him to a new long term deal. The last QB Denver traded retired rather than play for the team they traded him to. You just never know when these guys get so much bonus money up front what they will do.
Yep and the Texans are definitely taking Reggie Bush. Ever hear of smoke and mirrors? I know it is the Lions, but don't you think that they would leverage multiple players to get the best deal possible? and for goodness, sake read the USA today article that was posted previously.
They went 0-16 last year after spending most of their first round picks in this decade on WR's. I rest my case.
don't forget that the pats have enough picks stockpiled to trade up in front of us also. whether to grab a future starter at qb, wr, or to just keep somebody we want away from us. wouldn't put it past belicheat or any of his former staff now with other teams.
being from michigan I am going with the fact that they will once again get rid of their 1st round pick for something not so good. Just a theory, but if history repeats itself. ,oh and they will still suck.
The Pats don't like to do that. In fact they would prefer to trade down and save some money. However, it could happen and I would be just as happy if we traded away our first pick before the draft even begins. I don't see any must have player in the middle of that first round.
If the Lions pass up on Stafford, I really feel that Sanchez will fall into the hands of the Jets and I would love it to death. I've been on the Percy Harvin wagon for our 1st round pick @ 17 but with a chance to land a franchise type of QB outta USC...You just cant pass that up if your the Jets right about now. Give me Sanchez in the 1st and Britt in the 2nd and we would have a solid 1st and 2nd rounds with two really good players @ the QB and WR positions.
