http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/football/story/962983.html Could the Raiders have actually made a good move?
Fins were obviously targeting a center in the draft and either Alex Mack or Unger would be their pick. I have no faith in Grove to handle any NT in this division. I know why they lost faith in Satele, but the Raiders got them a decent center.... but do they ruin his career?
You guys actually think this is a good move? It appears to me that the Raiders replaced one undersized center who struggles against big nose tackles with another. Albeit a younger one with healthy knees and much cheaper than what the Fins paid for Grove. And NDmick is right about Grove's inability to handle big nose tackles. He actually got a game ball for playing a surprisingly good game against Jenkins last year but that performance was pretty shocking and out of character for him. He couldn't move Jamal Williams of the Chargers with a forklift. This is supposed to be a deep draft for centers, perhaps the Raiders now have enough insurance to not have to draft one early. There's been a lot of talk in the Bay Area that they really liked Mack from Cal...
Depends on the Price, and how serious his Shoulder Injury actually is. But Satele ist a good young Center, and a perfect fit for the Zone Blocking sceme. If you gave up a 3rd, I think it was a good Move, if it?s less than a 3rd, it was a steal.
Interesting, thanks. There was a rumor on the Raider board last night that it was a 6th but I find that hard to believe. It's probably a conditional pick of some kind...
I'm going to go in the same camp as GJF; a 3rd makes it good while anything less hosed the Phins. Satele's a solid player to have on an OL, and is very young too.
Whaddaya know, it was a 6th rounder, with the teams flipping picks in an unnamed round: http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nflnation/0-6-462/Fins-take-sixth-rounder-for-Satele--will-flip-picks.html
