Why bother with CONTRACTS anymore. No one sticks by them! When are these owners going to balls up, and say NO?! You signed the dotted line, fulfill your contract or get nothing. Have these bastards sit at home with their thumbs up their ass's for the remainder of the contract. Once the gravy train ain't coming in, they will change their tune. It's seriously pathetic the way these players think these days. The economy is in the pisser, people are losing their jobs left and right. And these jackasses want to hold out for more money. This isn't directed at the whole league. There are some players out there that play out their contract without a peep. But, it's assholes like this that make my blood boil. How about when he has a crap season, we can dip into that "guaranteed" money since he didn't live up to his part of the deal. Ok, I'm off my soapbox.
As much a scumwad as Drew Rosenhaus is, he is a smart businessman and knows that TJ's value is not going to get any higher in the future than it is at this point. He's trying to cash in one last real deal before TJ fades into the ranks of veteran depth backs.
If he was unhappy with the amount of money if was going to get this season, he shouldn't have signed the contract in the first place.
Why the fuck do these ANALysts only talk about base salaries? Thomas Fucking Jones signed a four fucking years $12 fucking million contract. Thats $3 mil a yr...end of story.
The Jets should enact the same policy that the Steelers currently have in place. They do not talk about any players contract until said player has one year remaining on his contract. I think they may have gone against this with Big Ben, but overall, I think it's a very effective way to avoid situations like this. The entire league should conduct business like this.
Also, the Jets should play hardball with him. Don't re-negotiate. Either don't play or find another team that will pay you what you think you deserve. I'd hate to burst his bubble, but the market for 31 year old RBs might not be what he expects.
I think we will be going towards era where all contracts will become incentive laden. And by the looks of it, that era is approaching. Performance based pay that is. Give out the guaranteed, them the remainder should be incentives. Tanny has done a few fair trades and thats what I like about him. By fair, I mean they are based on performance. Both teams are covered that way. I am hoping he will do the same when signing or resigning players.
It should come to this. Tanny has done a pretty good job with this, I agree. But it seems like we have a lot of players that do this year in and year out....Coles, Baker, Jones, Kendall etc. Even though the XFL was a joke...They had a good idea with the incentive laden contracts. You wanna ride around in a Bentley? Then let your play dictate your contract. You play like shit, you drive a Hyundai.
I am fine with performance clauses in trades, but the challenge in contracts that are heavily performance-based is that it fundamentally undermines the team concept. Not that I have a feasible alternative. Ideally, one-year contracts with insurers underwriting options players/teams can buy related to injury seems like the solution to me, but that isn't a feasible structure for the league / teams / agents to manage. Nor would there be much team continuity so the level of play would actually decrease. Perhaps a blanket no-renegotiation until the final year clause in each contract would help teams while a buy-out option on the player's side each year could work. Like I said early I really don't care about millionaires and billionaires arguing about how to split the pie. Rather, I'd just want to see "distractions" kept to a minimum to give my team the best possible chance of excelling on the field.
He has 2 years left on his deal if he had 1 year left & did not want to be a lame duck mabye I would be okay with that. He has 2 years left honor your contract if he does not show up for OTA'S draft his replacement.
The Jets should see if they can pry Tashard Choice from the Cowboys, offer em' a 3rd and a 2010 5th/6th. Probably wouldn't happen, but it would be worth a shot. If it did happen, then it would force TJ to shut up because he would have no leverage on the Jets - They would have a young, viable replacement for him who could also team up well with Leon.
I have no idea why you quoted me or what this means, but my post was to show Thomas Jones is averaging $5 million a year on his contract. He's not simply making $900,000.
TJ play ball or take a hike. You are getting payed a fair amount to play for the Jets. You are no Martin and all players can be replaced. :martin:
I am pretty sure that they have enacted this poilcy under Rex. I think that was part of the issue with Coles wanting to renegotiate (again).
Isn't 2010 an "uncapped year"? Why should anyone involved with any contract, be it player or management, abide by anything until the new CBA is in place. I hate to be a rainmaker here but can you say PlayersStrike 2011?
"Thomas Jones has reportedly been angling for a new contract since last month's Scouting Combine. Jones missed his second day of the Jets' offseason conditioning program Tuesday. The Jets denied comment. Perhaps New York will wind up giving Jones a one-year raise, but he probably won't get an extension at his age." Rotoworld
Did it go right over everyone's head? Drew Rosenhaus That's the REAL problem with Jones' contract...The pic was me seeing that Mr.Rosenhaus is obviously behind this and I am disgusted with him.
this is a great thought...they could use a RB and it would alleviate some cap space....great thought my friend
