I live in the DC area and thats the the thing. Can he stay healthy? He started most games, but was rarely able to play the whole time.
Springs has been a great CB throughout his career just his only knock on him is that he been bitten with the injury bug.
What you see right now with the Patriots defense is not what you're going to get by the time training camp roles around. I'm fully expecting that all their first 6 picks (all of which will be in the top 100 assuming they get somewhere in the '90s for Samuel), or something close to that, will be devoted to defense. Let's see how this defense looks after they add a few top 40 talents. And I wouldn't be surprised if they end up signing Leigh Bodden, although that's sort of a toss up right now.
BB always mixes veteran players with the kids.Pats let Vrabel go and will be going with a younger LB corps this season and they will draft a LB/CB with #23 and #34 Jets will miss Baker he'll play a bigger role with Pats and their new WR is a faster Gaffney with better hands who plays ST also.Versatility, something BB loves.....
Laurence Maroney for Corey Dillon at RB, I believe (Although he has been hurt frequently) Vince Wilfork for Ted Washington at NT Ellis Hobbs for Assante Samuel at CB Brandon Merriwhether/James Sanders for Rodney Harrison at S I know I'm missing a handful too. Maybe I'll do the research at some point. Oh, and right now they have CBs Jonathan Wilhite and Terrence Wheatley from 2008's draft that will likely take over for Springs.
Leigh Bodden too? They have two young guys from last year's draft at CB and they just brought in Shawn Springs to team with those guys and Ellis Hobbs. I don't think so.
I see your point. IMO Wilfork is the only top teir talent from that group but he has been in the league 5 years already. Time will tell with the others. Signing Springs does not promote Wilhite and Wheatley.
Springs gives the youngsters a veteran to learn the ropes from plus, one of their first day picks in the draft will be a young CB. The only reason the Pats were old at the end of last season was due to bringing Colvin and Seau in because their LB corps was decimated with injuries. Bruschi and Harrison are the old men on Defense, and Rodney probably retires. Vrabel is in KC now. Other teams in the division have improved also but it's the Pats division to lose. When Jets have a decent QB, then they too will be tough to beat. Just hope the money Ryan is throwing at all the Ravens players doesn't slow them down.
