We know that Rex plans to implement a power running game. Obviously a dominant offensive line and good run blocking are the obvious keys to that but what else will Rex do to make us a smashmouth offense... My prediction is that he is again going to take another page from last season's Raven's team and utilize Tony Richardson in the way the Ravens used Le'ron McClain. As a pro-bowl FB last year McClain scored 10 TD's and was used a lot in short yardage and goal line situations. The Jets were pretty quick to re-sign him as well. Now I understand that Richardson is a lot older than McClain and about 20 pounds lighter and I'm not saying he's gonna get 900 yards and 10 TD's like McClain did last year but I definitely think Rex will use him to an extent in this capacity. I wouldn't be surprised to see Richardson get 4 or 5 TD's next year. Then again it's only Feb and if we draft a power back or a young FB you can probably throw this post out the window.
Tony Richardson is not LeRon McClain WOW! Baltimore never had a powerful flashy offense even in the years they were succesful. They also never head a #1 WR and always had a mediocre QB. JETS fans looking for an explosive flashy offense. Pick a new team. Rex Ryan is gonna play conservative smash mouth ball-control offense. Id be wouldnt be surprised if they dont acquire a #1 WR. I can see a veteran QB on the lines of Leftwitch joining this team. Defense will be this teams motto. Games will be won 13-7 or 10-3 watch and see.
I never said you predicted anything other than Tony Richardson being like LeRon McClain thats absurd hes 40 years old.
TJ will get 25-30 a game. Lots of screens and dump offs to Leon. A few deep shots here and there to Clowney to keep the D honest. We certainly wont be as productive as last year. Rex is gonna want one of these young QBs to do what Big Ben did his first two years. Manage the game, dont turn it over, throw it away if no one is open. Low scoring field position battles.
As much as I would like a veteran QB for insurance purposes, I don't feel like the Jets will go after one in FA. Ryan has been quoted as feeling pretty confident about who we have and saying that he doesn't expect to go after a veteran QB. However, we all know that anything can happen, but I wouldn't expect us to sign anyone.
Richardson is in no way going to take on a role in rushing the ball. You can't teach and old dog new tricks. He has been a tremendous lead blocker for many of the games best through the years, but he has never and will never be handed the ball more then a few times a game
That is not true. Richardson had a few years where he carried the ball quite often 1999- 84 carries 387 yards 2000- 147 carries 697 yards Now, I am not saying he is going to have that kind of production with the Jets. However, you cannot say he has never carried the ball more than a few times a game
I think you'll see 20-25 carries a game for TJ and 10-15 a game for Leon. Awesome 1-2 punch. Richardson isn't built to hammer on the goal line...TJ will retain that role.
If the past day has told us anything is that we are going to be a very defensive minded team, which I prefer anyways. I always have believed that defense wins championships. I'm not saying we have a Super Bowl bound team, not yet. Free Agency just started and you never know what Woody has up his sleeve. I can see us making a serious push for TJ Houzmanwhatshisface. I think he and Cotchery would make an excellent duo on the field and who would you double team? As for a QB, I started a thread for Vince Young and got SLAUGHTERED, I love you all too. Our QB situation isn't as serious as it appears. I think give Clemens a chance. I really like the kid and I think under the right line and with a good running game, he will be a slightly above average QB.
I'd much rather grab a power back in the 2nd round. Shonn Greene would be a great addition to our offense.
1. LeSean McCoy, Pittsburgh McCoy, with no supporting cast of note, made the best of his collegiate career, and if not for the 'gentle' nudging of his mother, might be back at Pitt for his junior season. McCoy's arsenal of moves and skills appear to be unmatched in this draft: I would take him as a feature back, which is a rare occurrence in today's game. His combine numbers can by excused by a virus that he caught just before it. 2. Knowshon Moreno, Georgia I don't see the complete skill set here that would make Moreno a feature back, but he could be a good pick for the Patriots or someone at the end of the first round because he's polished enough to step in to a rotation from day one. Moreno was a feared runner in college, but like most top end draft-eligible RBs, pass blocking is a concern. 3. Chris "Beanie" Wells, Ohio State Wells was a high school super-recruit, but twice ran into injuries in his career at Ohio State, and the durability concerns make me place him below both Moreno and McCoy. He's ideal as a change of pace back early in his career. A perfect fit would be with the Eagles as the replacement for Correll Buckhalter and he can share time with Brian Westbrook, the best in the business. 4. Donald Brown, Connecticut Depending on who you talk to, Brown is anywhere between a feature back (Mike Mayock) to a special teamer. The truth is, I like him in the same role I like Wells and Moreno, as a integral part of a two-headed backfield. I think Brown would thrive in that role. He makes sense in the second round for a Jacksonville or Cincinnati. 5. Mike Goodson, Texas A&M Goodson has an interesting build for a running back, as he goes 6'0" and sub-200 lbs. He ran in the necessary range for a runner at the combine of his size and level of accomplishment: 4.4 level. I need to watch more film on him before I say anything more
I think you're wrong. This team will score about 24 a game. Go back and look at Rex's quotes on Gholston. He places a premium on utilizing every players particular skill set. 13-7 or 10-3 at the half...wearing the other team down.....then using explosive players to put the other team away.....He kept Schottinthefoot for a reason.....
I think Greene makes more sense for us than any of those RB's. He'd be a perfect 3DRB and can get 20 touches a game when TJ leaves.
2 words...ball control. A clock burning offense always complements a stifling defense. Rex is keeping it simple, whereas Manretarded tried to make every his every into some deep meaningful intellectual journey.
Well you should have done more research. Vince Young is clearly gay and we don't need him prancing around Chelsea when he should be concentrating on learning the playbook.
