I mean, obviously he's Ray Lewis's Jr. by 5 years. But Ray Ray out produced him last year, even in his 13th Season. Sure, Scott is an upgrade over what we currently have. But bringing Lewis to the Jets, even if he is 33 would be bringing a leader, team motivator and outright hard worker. Don't get me wrong, Scott had a solid year last year. But the stats simply don't lie. We pick up Scott, and we're picking up an upgrade at the LB position. We pick up Lewis for 2-3 years and we bring a whole new meaning to work ethic. I really think that's what this team needs. Not just another good player. Case and point, we've got Rhodes and Revis. Sure, they're shutdown players. But they aren't Defensive Leaders, let alone Team Leaders. There are certain players whose confidence and attitude rub off on others. Lewis is one of those guys, which is my case and point for bringing him here over Scott. On top of the fact that he's a beast. Feel free to flame away, all I'm saying is that people should know the stats before hyping a player up, especially a Defensive Player. Ray Lewis 08 TCKL SCK FF INT 117 3.5 2 3 Bart Scott 08 TCKL SCK FF INT 82 1.5 2 0
Apparently people who followed the Ravens closely say Scott outperformed Lewis this year. Remember tackle stats are the most overrated defensive number out there. Allegedly Scott spent alot more time in coverage and was asked to do alot more things for the D than the declining Lewis. Personally, I want us to pick up Scott because of the aforementioned ability to cover TE's which clearly was the biggest weakness of the defense last season. The middle was ALWAYS open. I don't think anyone on this board actually thinks Lewis is better in coverage than the younger, faster Scott; atleast I hope not.
The thing is Scott has to compete with Lewis for tackles, and while Scott is only going to get better, Lewis is only going to get worse
i see what your point is, but im for scott because hes on the upside of his career, where ray ray is on the downside
Scott had the 2nd most tackles on the team behind Ray Lewis. The guy is just peaking while Lewis is on the decline. Yes, Lewis is a great motivator and will give this defense a new attitude, but I don't think the team should break the bank on motivation and attitude alone. We need to solidify this position for 3-4 years. Lewis WILL NOT do that.
Scott is going to get better, by being put in the right situations with an established Defense. On the other hand, he is not going to get better by being on a Defense that he's going to be asked to become the leader of instantly. That's alot to put on someone's shoulders who's only developing. Personally, I believe Lewis is going to be able to perform well, while also helping our younger players (Harris, and Gholston) develope into the type of player that we see in Bart Scott. Plus, if we can get Ray for the same price, then why not? I think he has a good 2 years left in him. That's plenty of time to turn Harris into a Mini-Ray. Gholston....That's another thread entirely.
