normally i would agree with this line of thinking....but Winfield turned out to be a stud for Minny....and just talking about the situation where he snubbed the Jets...still makes me sick to my stomach.
With the amount of cap room we got I don't really care if we overpay for Scott. Other than him we have no good free agent options at ILB, he knows the system, and CAN COVER TE'S. Get it done Tannenbaum.
not really. what you consider overpaying today will seem like a bargain in a few years, especially if that uncapped season happens.
Well, KFFL is reporting that the Ravens and Scott are only 400k to 700k apart in their negotiations. I'd say it's still more likely that he signs with them than visits us. If he makes it our way, though, I'd guess we sign him up immediately. If they wait a few hours, I hope Tanny gets on the phone, finds out what that number Scott wants is, and gives him half a million more. If that's all that's keeping them apart, put it slightly out of reach of the Ravens, but still keep the number competitive.
Scott isnt a bad player but he makes Eric Barton look like Ghandi on the football field. Seriously, he is too out of control at times. I dont mind this kind of play sometimes but he overdoes it alot. The Patriot/Raven game 2 years ago is the perfect example. Not sure if I want to invest THAT much money into a loose cannon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7uUjeI1JPY
the cap has been managed very well, you have to give that to tanny.... ....plus last offseason's moves were fantastic, even though the results weren't what we hoped, there were some excellent moves made
Cimini....... The Waiting Game February 26, 2009 Waiting ... waiting ... waiting. The midnight hour almost is upon us, with Jets Nation transfixed on what's happening in Baltimore. Will Ray Lewis re-sign with the Ravens? Bart Scott? Will one or both hit the free market at 12:01? A person with knowledge of the situation informs me that Scott is likely to become a free agent. If that happens, I suspect he'll be on a private jet in the morning, headed to Florham Park, N.J, where he'll be sitting in his old coach's office (that would be Rex Ryan) by mid-morning. And that would be a very good thing for the Jets, who would try their hardest to not let him leave the building without signing a contract. In the meantime, we wait.
If he doesn't get signed in the next 45 minutes we gotta go hard for this guy and get em in here before some team like the douchie Pats try to ink him to a deal.
Damn ESPN!!! You know they know something, yet they say nothing on Sportscenter now. They should know I'm getting tired and have to work early tomorrow. Damn them for not knowing my sleep schedule.
Multiple sources are indicating that the New York Jets plan on aggressively hitting the market at midnight tonight. Ravens safety Jim Leonhard and Steelers guard Chris Kemoeatu are expected to be among their targets. After a slew of cuts, highlighted by the whacking of receiver Laveranues Coles, have left New York close to $40 million under the salary cap. One player cut today was starting guard Brandon Moore, who could be replaced by Kemoeatu. Leonhard, of course, has history with Rex Ryan from Baltimore, and Leonhard is expendable in Baltimore, with the expected return from injury of Dawan Landry. Two other members of Ryan's Ravens defense -- Bart Scott and Ray Lewis -- will also be on the market if Baltimore can't work out deals with those players. The Jets spent big to bring in a haul highlighted by Brett Favre, Calvin Pace, Alan Faneca, Damien Woody and Kris Jenkins last offseason. It's worth noting, too, that they've got an awful lot of premium seating to fill in their new stadium, which is set to open in 2010.
Chris Kemoeatu will be a nice addition - he's almost 350 pounds. Ryan probably knows a lot about CK - his defense may have had trouble with him in the past.
